So, any thoughts for game #4 scenario?

As posted in the news the next game will begin in 1970s. Any thoughts on the exact year and things?

This will be a harder world as there is less pax demand. There will be most likely another game too with some 1985ish start year that is relatively much more easier. Or then perhaps a modern 1995+ game.

What is the maximum time frame allowed? Would it be possible to go from 1970-2008 or something along those lines?

I'd like a 1990/95 through to 2015ish. That would give us a good opportunity to play with the A380... its also a reasonable time in the future as we pretty much know what aircraft will be around in 2015.

And I am very pleased with the pre-delivery maintenance feature, thanks :)

Im all for older games.  1960s on forward.  I don't need to play a game solely for the A380 that everyone is going to attempt to buy.

Dazwalsh

im all for starting at 1980 and then running all the way up to 2010 (before the 787 and a50 take to the sky)

either that or 1970 - 2000

Maybe late 70s?  ...without deregulation (in the US at least), the airline biz didn't really go bonkers with everyone driving each other out of business.

How bout something that ends before the big increase in the cost of oil.

I was thinking 1968-1985. Oil spikes in '72. This gives players 4 years till oil starts making an airline difficult to run. Also, a 17 year game would make players do 2 D checks. As opposed to 1 with a 15 year game. Makes things a bit touchy at the end knowing you'll have to mass replace or mass D check your fleets. (towards the end of game 1, a number of airlines "survived" because they didnt have to replace there fleets at the end..  ;))

If not, then 1970-1985 sounds ok. Bit tougher, but it if you can live through 9 years of high oil. The last 4 years will be a breeze.

Also, you'll have to make sure and add the 1960/1970s aircraft data we came up with (you know.. the ones you passed on entering  :P)

I dont think the player base will be happy fighting for 1 long haul type as we did in beta2. If you thought the backlog was bad now..

I think we manged to gather all the aircraft data that was missing during that time period. But if not, im willing and able

It would be nice to limit the number of aircraft available for lease from leasing firms since leasing firms started in the early 70s.  This may slow the mega-booms which we have seen with the current games.

2005 is awful end year. Many new aircraft enter service in the few years before the game ends. This makes purchasing them unwise but tempting :)

the game should end around 2000 or 2010.

I agree.
Ether a game starting 5 years earlier, where MD-80s and 737 Classics are rear and you have to go with DC-9s or 737 Jurassic or 727s.
Or a game a few years later, where you will have time to play with the E-jets, A380 and later versions of 777s.

But it would be fun to try out a completely different time frame also. I would like a 40-50-60s game with old piston planes! Might not be enough demand for 350 players though.

It wasnt until the Constellation came out that intercontinental flights actually became somewhat common.  You really can't do the 40s because of that little squabble from 1939 until 1945.

How about 1960-2010, 20min per day?

ugh no no no... please god no.  WAY too long.  50 years?

18,262.5 game days @ 20 minutes: 365,250 minutes, 6087 hours, 253.63 days. no.

Sami

Games will be standard length, about 3 months real time.

swiftus27

Then it all comes down to a matter of minutes/game day and a starting date:

If a game will last 90 human days, the following game years will take place:

10 minute game days = 35.5 years
15 minute game days = 23.67 years
20 minute game days = 17.75 years
25 minute game days = 14.20 years

With this said, my opinion is 15 minute days.  That way, airlines who buy real early will be forced to do 2 D checks.

I remember, that Sami tought before that 15 min gameday is way too fast. I actually suggested that before. Maby Sami can deal with some compromises? How about 20min per day and four monts in real time? The game would be more expensive ofcourse!
