(Sanya - People's Republic of China) - Due to numerous rumors, accusations, and slanders that Hainan Provincial People's Airlines acquired American-made Airplanes, a press statement was released this afternoon at the airline's headquarters in Sanya.

Surrounded on the stage by the local representatives of the Communist Party of China, officials from the state aviation authority, local government officials, and representatives from the airlines' labor union, the director general carefully read the prepared statement.

He said, "The accusations and allegations against this airline are created by those who oppose this country's technological progress. There is no doubt that our enemies of the state must have been the ones behind all of this. First, let me reiterate that we would never purchase any airplanes made by capitalist pigs. The news that we acquired the Lockheed L-188 Electra is absolute garbage. The plane in question is actually an indigenous design by our young and bright comrades in the aviation industry, based on the highly valuable inputs from our pilots and technicians. The name of the plane is Long March L-188C Proletariat. And remember, the C stands for Communism."

When a journalist asked about the design's similarities with the Soviet-made Ilyushin Il-18, the director general simply said, "Looks can be similar. After all, what do you expect? All airplanes in the world would have two wings and engines on the wings. It's a basic design. But, one thing that I can say is that this plane is more advanced than the Soviet made. It is more fuel-efficient and requires a shorter runway. It has a more sophisticated avionic system too, which is why it requires only three pilots instead of four. I strongly believe that this aircraft will generate great results for our airline and country. Thank you."

He ended his statement with that. Behind the stage, a large painting of Chairman Mao's portrait hangs in the background. After the event, pamphlets about the said aircraft were handed out to the attendees. No Q&A session was provided.
