Order-book CLOSED yet production still in full swing ? ? ?

What's going on in the AoF game?  The DC.8 states that - "Production has ended on February 2003" when you look up any of the DC.8 models.... and yet airline such as Next Hop still show they have over 80 of the DC.8-63 and -63CF on order.  Doesn't make sense to me unless something new happened and production lines can now get shut down despite airlines still busy placing orders for them?

There is a rule somewhere in the game that in-game production must end 30 years after it ended in real life, which appears to be 1972.

In the same time, game needs to honour existing orders, so I have the privilege for years to come to enjoy delivery of the plane that no-one else can afford!  ;D

I wonder when this rule snuck into existance?  I recall a GW from years ago when an online AWS friend of mine (wreck) / Chris... (at least I think this was him ??) he ran a whole GW up to modern times... I think he was based in VietNam so noise rules didn't affect him too bad... but he ran the whole game I seem to remember continuously buying AW Argosy aircraft (whistling wheelbarrows).  So this rule must have come in sometime over the most recent years I guess.

Yes I did, just for a bit of fun & a change/challenge.

A player (no longer playing the game) threw his toys out of the pram & complained bitterly that that it wasn't realistic & and as a result a new rule was introduced, I can't remember whether production now ceases 30 or 35 years after it starts.

Yeah, I think I remember a game where an airline kept ordering Viscounts into the 2030s.

What a shame there are folk out there who want to spoil the fun enjoyed by others when that bit of fun couldn't possibly affect their own enjoyment (or not) of the game   :,(

Why is it an issue if an airline wanted to order viscounts into the 2000s? If someone wants to pay to keep the production line open I'm sure the manufacturer would have no issues with that in reality.

But what would be a better way of restricting the length lines stay open would be to say that the 'number of orders to stay open' increases significantly the further away the line gets from initial launch?

Well, there are certain other features too which steer the players to "proper" (realistic) paths of decisions, this is not the only one  ;)
