Cargo demand between US & South America

Can someone explain cargo demand between the US and South America? Perhaps I don't understand the dynamics as well as I thought. The demand seems virtually nonexistent except for Brazil, albeit modest. This would seem to suggest it is based purely on GDP, in which case Brazil is the largest economy on the continent. There are other large economies such as Argentina, Chile and Colombia but in the grand scheme of things they are much smaller when compared to their Asian and European counterparts. If I'm simply looking in the wrong places, please smack me.

The cargo should be depending on population * GDP per capita.  In other words, by GDP.

The richest countries in South America (Chile, Uruguay, Argentina) should have more cargo.

Brazil has some very large population areas, which contribute to its cargo demand.

There is definitely a "cultural", or maybe "relations" considered in cargo demand too. Eg former colonies seem to have boosted numbers, or places with common languages. Eg UK-US is 2-3x bigger than Germany-US despite germany having roughly equilvant GDP. UK-HK is boosted, Netherlands-Indonesia, UK-India, ect, ect, ect.

I think this is somewhat modeled in the pax demand.  Spain has higher demand to South America.  Probably not modeled in cargo yet

no clue for cargo, but definitively very strong for pax. It's very impressive with France & Algeria. When I played in ALG, it seemed like mainland France was like a colony.  ;D

Bogota should be a large cargo market especially to Miami and cargo hubs in Europe.

The mechanics really don't seem to mirror real life at all. For example, despite them being a huge exporter, there is massive demand TO China from pretty much anywhere developed, but not a lot coming out.

In general: fruits and vegetables.
I've regularly seen loads of some 30000kg of asparagus out of Lima...
