Slot price and availability

Hi,

1°) in current GW#2, the price of a weekly series of slots in SVO is over a million. While it's true that its almost completely locked from 0500 to 2355, I don't really understand that price when compared to either the price in larger airports / the price in airports in the same tight situation (usually around 300 K).
-> Is there a logical explanation?

2°) if we compare the demand/supply (an nature of supply, ie type of AC) to the slot availability in SVO, and comparing that with the situation in other airports, it appears that SVO is particularly slot-tight.
-> Is it notorious that some airports have comparatively/proportionally fewer slots for a said supply, and thus get locked much faster?

Thanks,

Arthur

One factor that you haven't considered is SVO is a relatively new airport and hasn't had time to create the number of slots that other airports have. Coupled with the fact that airlines have had 10 years to expand, so are relatively cash rich, they can expand quickly thus putting pressure on the initially, quite limited slot number. I suspect it's going to grow and potentially grow a lot. Also, at the most slot restricted airports, 1,000,000+ isn't unusual.

Slot prices also depend upon how many slots you have at a given airport. If you have none, then prices are lower.

Aaah, ok. Well, thanks to both of you.

So I could expect more slot release than for other older airports? I really hope so, because getting in that situation in the middle of a renewal is not particularly pleasant, especially with a big speed change.

SVO I would expect more releases, other older slot constrained airports, I'd say keep and eye out, because I suspect they are nearing the limit for the era.

Scheduling in this era of big change becomes a nightmare, because it's very hard to make everything fit together for maximum efficiency. It tends to be the case that you need to make some compromises on fitting your schedules together, where an aircraft isn't used as much as it could be.

Tha_Ape

Yup. And as you said:
QuoteEdit: "85% occupancy but all have still some slots available" yes, between 00:00 and 04:55
Oh, no, I'm lying, there are some series available between 1415 and 1640 in SVO

Thanks.

Heathrow started at 56 slots/hourm , climbed to about 120 really quickly, paused, climbed to 140 pretty quick and now adds a slot/hour every game 4 months or so. At Heathrow it'll be fun to see if the 3rd runway is put into the game or not in 2020 or so.

But yes prices are related to how dominant you are at the airport, and EGLL is 1M for 7 days for us residents. But if we buy at, JFK, it's 120K or as we're not dominant there.
