start with a good base (big to bigger), satrt with a bigger aircraft , keep a good fleet commnality, aircraft condition (more than 80%).

Keep growing wisely not just buy any aircarfts you get (well you can if you know what you doing). always keep a eye on staffing level and look for the right lease price .

Well these are just a few basic things there are more to this . Hope this helps mate.

OK, seriously this time. My strategy is basically to start at an airport that is relatively big, has lots of slots available, is open 24 hours, but does not attract huge attention from everyone playing. In the previous game I did OK in Barcelona, this time it's Rome and Mexico City. The hub also has to be in the vicinity of several big airports (within <600NM or so) and also have lots of demand to smaller cities nearby (often domestic flights). I like to start with 100+ passenger aircraft, depends on the era of course but BAe-146/Avro RJ, Fokker 100, etc. Not necessarily B737 or A320 series because they are hard to come by because everyone else wants them as well. Aircraft that size have to have a lot of daily flights to be profitable, so I start with the shorter high-demand routes. That also secures you lots of slots you can release for bigger aircraft later on in the game. At some point I get a second fleet group for medium-haul routes (B757?) and start flying transcontinental and intercontinental routes. With my strategy I often don't have huge long-haul demand, but at some point I go for those routes with smaller long-range aircraft (B767). I always try to have a plan and don't just lease any aircraft on the used market but save  up my money to exploit changing situations such as big carriers going bankrupt. The initial expansion phase has to be with leased aircraft but later on in the game I start buying my fleet and also buy aircraft to lease out. This round I'm also trying to use focus cities more when I start to run out of routes from my initial hub.

EDIT: Dasha, how rude!  :P

Well...
Many players - many solutions,
I do agree that your first hub must be large enough, but nor the largest neither most famous (not LHR, FRA, AMS, LAX, JFK and etc.).
I do also recognize the importance of commonality.
I do not agree that a big aircraft is a must at the begining. My first 20 AC were 48 seaters, all operating on the short-hauls (not more than 400 nm), that allowed up to 6 daily flights with 20 th./AC/day profit. After that I was able to increase range of flights, which brought the profit margin down, but still earned me some extra money. I know have appr. 100 AC, the largest of those is BAC 1-11...  I have no long-hauls at all. Still, I am in top20 (Airline value) and top10 (Pre-tax income in last 4 weeks).,,,

Borrow as much money as you can. Buy stock when the prices are low and sell them when the prices are high.
