short route with high demand Q

will it work to put in a DC10\747?

or does the demand spread out during the day?

is it best with more smaller airplanes?

just started playing, and for "s***s and LolZ" i put a DC10 on a 150NM route with 1400pax a day demand.
or was that just dumb? :P

It works well if you are the only person running the route, but it frequency matters if you are in comeptition

Hevneren

hm ok. have 1 competitor. im only getting 27%load the first week. guess we shal see how it goes.
thanks

One factor to consider on shorter routes is the turnaround of larger aircraft.  Whilst you can transport a higher number of passengers, the largest aircraft take some 3 hours to turn-around effectively and on the shorter routes a smaller aircraft could get there and back in that time.

You really are better off running aircraft designed for the route...in the case of what your saying...I'd almost tell you
to go ATR 72...cheap, fast enough for that range, and you'll kill your competitor with the frequency of flights.  Just don't go
ATR if you already have 3 fleet types....the 4th is sorta killer unless you are big enough to absorb the costs and can have enough
aircraft in the fleet to justify the maintenance costs.

747's were once an instant win on short range/high demand routes....not anymore.

yea, thinking about putting my DC10 elsewhere, but there is no intl demand from my tiny base. but its doing about 70% now. and its kinda fun to have such a plane on this route :P

BUT can i steal my competitors passengers somehow? reducing my price? higher frequency?
better seats? how does the competition thingy work in this game?

slither360

That's the issue with using big planes - the only way you can profitably compete with your competitors is by increasing frequency (or dumping capacity sometimes)

i do have a bigger frequency, and have taken about 56% of the share of the route, but i want more!

does it help to make my planes depart just before and after his does? will price mater?

Price and departure time (apart from departures between 00-05) have very little to no impact.
The biggest impact comes from CI and frequency. Plane type, age and seat types may have some influence, but only if your competitor flies a very different plane (eg. one of you has a brand new plane, the other 15+ planes with not so good maintenance).
So the best option to gain more market share is to add more frequency, or increase marketing campaigns. Adding frequency is always the best thing to do, provided there's still unserved demand from your company.

ahh i see
im using old hawker Tridents that i had to repair extra because of delays :\ hehe

competitor using DC9 and 737. probably has a much higer CI aswell.
