Hi all,

I'm on the hunt for cheap B747-400s in passenger configuration, does anybody have any coming up for sale? With or without heavy MX.

Game talk - Beginner's Worlds / Re: Replacing 757's

Yeah I'd agree - experiment now with a different strategy while you're in the Beginner's World.

I see it's either 2016 or 2019 depending which one you're playing. The bigger Boeings or Airbuses will be perfect replacements for the 757 - there is a reason that happened in real life!

Particularly the A321 would be good but I can't see how many are available or what the prices are like. The fuel burn will reduce from around 4000kg/hr to 2700kg/hr - a 32% fuel saving! And I haven't even looked at maintenance costs which are something you really have to watch in the competitive worlds (Edit: a C check on a nearly new 737 or A321 is less than half the cost of that on a 15 y/o 757).  The A321 is slightly slower (only a bit) but the long turnaround required for the 757 will make moving the schedules without losing slots VERY easy. Tip: make sure you adjust the turnaround time at the outstation to be sure you use the same slot times for the inbound flight too, wherever possible.   In fact, you will end up with a lot of 30 to 50 minute gaps which you can then "fix" when you have time - another good practice for the real worlds where every minute means $$$.

This will give you the flexibility to also play with some smaller a/c (A320, A319) which will also be good practice.

The same applies to the 737-900 which is slightly smaller than the A321 but burns less fuel still. I guess it depends what's available and at what price. With the new commonality rules, sticking with Boeing will save you some money in that respect during transition.

Also don't be afraid of looking at the MD-90 family. The larger models in particular (never actually produced in real life) are very good. The figures aren't quite as good as A or B but they are often available very cheaply.

Just don't be afraid of experimenting.  It's only a game after all and you're not even in the REAL game yet.

Announcements - The Age of Flight / FlightClub is proudly the #5 a...
Last post by AngryOpossum - September 08, 2025, 06:42:02 AM
MUNICH, WEST GERMANY — With the recent bankruptcy of Teutonia, FlightClub recognizes the loss of a peer in the West German aviation sector. We extend our measured sympathies to Teutonia's former employees, passengers, and unsecured creditors. That said, we are now proud to report that FlightClub is now the number five airline in West Germany*.

"Aviation is an unforgiving business. We at FlightClub are no strangers to difficult quarters, tense conversations with creditors, and in-flight aircraft repossessions," remarked FlightClub CEO Peter "The Elbow" Braun. "We've been where Teutonia was. We just knew when to stop answering the phone."

While our official rank remains fifth, we do note that FlightClub is currently the #2 most profitable airline in the country. BlitzKranich reported a quarterly loss exceeding $12 million. BrockAir lost over $10 million. FlightClub, by contrast, posted a modest but undeniable surplus, despite having no medium or larger-sized aircraft, no in-flight catering, and no salaried cabin crew.

While we cannot say with certainty who determines the airline rankings in West Germany, or what criteria they use, we suspect it is someone with a fondness for legroom and a deep disregard for profit margins. But at FlightClub, our passengers know what they're signing up for: small aircraft, flexible destinations, and a boarding process that rewards physical strength over frequent flier status.

"I don't lose sleep over rankings," Braun said in closing. "But perhaps some of our competitors should. The rankings list can change. I didn't earn the nickname 'The Elbow' by staying in line."

Despite recent financial success, experts remain skeptical of FlightClub's long-term viability. The airline's planes are not technically certified for night flights, international airspace, or altitudes above 4,000 feet, and thus rely on quick turnaround times to evade local authorities. These business practices have consistently placed FlightClub near the bottom of punctuality ratings. The range of the airline's planes is also notoriously limited. Crossing the Alps, noted Martin Krüger, professor of finance at the Technical University of Munich, requires "favorable weather and divine intervention." Krüger — who previously warned that FlightClub stock may carry contingent liability due to its "unusual combination of debt exposure, operational negligence, and creative accounting" — added that recent profits "do little to offset the airline's fundamental disqualifications from modern aviation."

Announcements - Airline Generations / Bleep bloop. Goosewings.ca!
Last post by Coprolite - September 08, 2025, 03:20:58 AM
On Yahoo, AOL, and other internet services of the day that support a growing tide of online advertising, ads are appearing for the new Goosewings website. It is reasonably navigable, but features extensive use of the font "Comic Sans", and entirely too many dancing goose gif animations. Upon booking, a video clip of a Max Headroomized Tim Timmerson appears to thank the customer for their purchase, crashing 19% of the computers involved in said transactions. Special offers to online customers include discounted fares to "The Winnipeg of Europe: Manchester" (apply code HONKHONKEH at checkout).

There are extensive cross promotions wth a variety of other e-commerce sites that Tim Timmerson has started with his fortune earned from Goosewings (including puddingbymail.ca and flannelvixens.ca). In an interview on CBC's Marketplace, Timmerson enthuses, "Like the music of Bran Van 3000, e-commerce is an ever-expanding bubble that will never burst!"

Announcements - The Age of Flight / Ghana Air System Established; ...
Last post by RioluNintendo - September 07, 2025, 08:25:14 PM
This past month, the government of Ghana, in collaboration with an assortment of private investors, launched "Ghana Air System" as the nations latest national carrier. Aiming to fill in gaps in demand for transportation in Africa, the airline has shown a modest start, launching flights to London in March with a used Lockheed L-1049 Super Constellation, and recently Lagos with a Saab Scania. The airline sector is notoriously volatile, particularly in Africa, where established demand is not has high. However, the leadership of Ghana Air System seem to be more than willing to face this challenge head on.

Game talk - Beginner's Worlds / Re: Replacing 757's
Last post by babuca - September 07, 2025, 07:01:11 PM
I guess in my mind I thought that higher frequencies = more airplanes = more costs. But since the maintenance and fuel burn is much lower I suppose that would be the compensation? And more flights would also equal better market share.

Another question is I am confused why KDFW has such little demand for long haul in this world? Right now I cannot see enough demand to justify adding a new fleet group to the mix, especially a long haul fleet.

"I don't see how my medium range 757 routes can be easily replaced"

what makes you say this? Are you worried that 737 or A320 or regional jet replacements have fewer seats? One of the benefits of KDFW is it is slap in the middle of the country, so there is no need to longer leg beasties such as 757s. If you were based on a coastal corner, for example KSEA, then you would need longer range to reach Florida for example.

So what's the issue with 737s and the like? Slot costs are expensive, but are only a one-off. So dropping to a smaller capacity aircraft, and adding a 2nd daily flight with associated slot costs isn't such a bad trade-off. Bare in mind when you move from BW to a competitive gameworld there will be many more players at each airport, and that's when frequency wins. So it's good to get into this style of play now, rather than rely on a single large flight a day. As those will get decimated by other players. Hopefully.  :D

Hi all

Im currently running a fleet of 757's at KDFW in BW1. Long haul traffic is very scarce so most of my flying pencils are doing domestic routes. Im coming to the point where a coupe of them have D checks coming up and I would want to start phasing out 757's. Due to their turn around its been quite difficult to have a higher utilization than 10-11 hours a day without going too late in the night.

Slots are very expensive in KDFW, so what would be the best way to transition away from the 757? Right now im investing in 737's for the shorter routes, but I dont see how my medium range 757 routes can be easily replaced with the current demand. Keeping the slots and stuff in mind.

Dear Fellow CEOs,

It is with a mixture of pride, mischief, and a dash of deliberate self‑sabotage that I announce the unprecedented (and entirely voluntary) wind‑down of my once‑thriving airline empire in Airwaysim. After years of soaring profits, immaculate safety records, and a marketing budget that could fund a small nation, I have decided to embrace the darker side of aviation entrepreneurship and chase four very special achievements:

  • "Wrecked Aircraft Operator" – because who needs well‑maintained planes when you can revel in the sweet scent of rust?
  • "Marketing Nightmare" – a tribute to every ad campaign ever canceled in a single, glorious stroke.
  • "Ukraine plane lover" - Slava Ukraina
  • "Russian plane lover" - It's an achievement and I want it even though the timing is bad

With these achievements within striking distance the Ukraine-Russo fleet will be dismantled before mid next decade.
This means that YOU will have an opportunity to operate these fine machines.

Below you'll find the exact assets now up for grabs. All sales will be conducted at minimum price / maximum bid, ensuring that even the most frugal of you can snag a piece of aviation history (or a very expensive paperweight).

What's on the Block?
AircraftQuantityAgeStatus
Antonov An‑140184< 6 yReady for the lowest possible price – or the highest, if you're feeling generous.
Antonov An‑148150< 6 ySame deal: rock‑bottom cost, sky‑high bids welcome.
Antonov An-158< 6 yThe "premium" Antonov experience, now at bargain‑bin rates.Available immediately
Sukhoi Superjet150<5 yearsBeing replaced by sleek Embraer E2s – perfect for anyone who loves Russian engineering.
Ilyushin Il‑114250<15 years(Entering market 2023) The "vintage" charm of Soviet‑era turboprops, now finally affordable.

Why Bid Now?
  • Achievement Hunting – Secure the "Ukraine Plane Lover" badge by snapping up the Antonovs before May 2013, then chase the "Russian Plane Lover" badge with the Superjets and Il‑114s.
  • Strategic Diversification – Add a splash of Eastern European flair to your fleet without breaking the bank.

How to Place Your Bid
If interested please send a private message to our CEO NovemberCharlie.
Alliance mates will be prefered and can send me a discord message

Final Word
In the grand tradition of aviation legends who dared to fly too close to the sun, I've chosen instead to sell everything before the sun sets. Let the bidding wars begin, and may the most daring (or most desperate) CEO win!

Fly high, bid low, and remember: the sky's the limit—unless you've just sold the whole fleet.

Signed,
Your fellow (and now slightly reckless) CEO

NovemberCharlie

P.S. Feel free to forward this press release to any investors, shareholders, or friends who appreciate a good undercut. The more the merrier!
P.P.S. Lol despite fuel over $1000/tn, CI -100 and a quarter of all flights cancelled, I'm still making 20 million a week  ;D
