Japan Aero Transit: Farewell of the Bombardier CRJ1000, our 2nd-Gen Workhorse

OSAKA, JAPAN (02-Sep-2022)

====

Japan Aero Transit (JAT) today officially retired its fleet of Bombardier CRJ1000 aircraft, closing a memorable chapter in the airline's regional expansion. The final commercial service, Flight JT7014, landed safely at Miyazaki Airport (KMI) from Hakodate (HKD), marking the successful completion of the CRJ family's dedicated mission with JAT.

To honor this milestone, cabin crew onboard Flight JT7014 presented each passenger with a specially crafted commemorative pin, expressing JAT's gratitude to the travelers who shared in the aircraft's final voyage.

A Pillar of Inter-Regional Growth

Introduced as JAT's second-generation regional backbone, the Bombardier CRJ1000 fleet played a pivotal role during a period of rapid network development. The aircraft was initially deployed to meet surging passenger traffic across Chubu Centrair (NGO), Sendai (SDJ), and Kobe (UKB).

Furthermore, the CRJ1000 served as the primary flagship during the launch and early establishment of JAT's Miyazaki (KMI) operations. By delivering reliable, high-frequency connectivity, the aircraft laid a solid foundation for JAT's regional feeder network, bridging vital economic and cultural links across Western Japan, Tohoku, and Kyushu.

Pioneering a Greener Fleet: The E-Jets E2 series

As the CRJ1000 fleet matured, JAT initiated a comprehensive fleet renewal strategy in 2018, introducing the state-of-the-art Embraer E190-E2 alongside the larger E195-E2. The phased rollout of these next-generation regional jets allowed JAT to seamlessly transition its feeder network to a more advanced, efficient platform.

The retirement of the CRJ1000 represents more than just a fleet modernization. It marks a major step forward in JAT's commitment to environmental stewardship and decarbonization:
  • Carbon Footprint Reduction: The replacement Embraer E2 family delivers double-digit reductions in fuel burn and CO2 emissions per seat compared to previous-generation regional aircraft.
  • Noise Contouring: Advanced ultra-high-bypass engines significantly reduce external noise footprints, providing quieter operations for communities surrounding regional airports.
  • Operational Efficiency: The enhanced aerodynamic efficiency of the E-Jets supports JAT's long-term goal of achieving sustainable, low-emission regional connectivity across Japan.

Looking Ahead

JAT combines operational precision with environmental responsibility to deliver elegant, seamless travel across Japan and beyond. As we retire this faithful workhorse, we look forward to carrying its legacy into a cleaner, quieter, and more sustainable future powered by our modern E-Jets fleet.
