First, the airline confirmed today that its final McDonnell Douglas MD-83 has officially entered heavy maintenance. During this period, the aircraft will receive a comprehensive mechanical overhaul and be retrofitted with an advanced Chapter 4 Hushkit to meet the most stringent modern noise reduction standards.

This marks the culmination of AirTran's massive fleet revitalization project. As this final aircraft completes its upgrades, all MD-83s in the AirTran fleet will now feature completely refreshed interior cabins, brand-new exterior paint jobs, and upgraded mechanical systems. These iconic "Mad Dogs" are restored to like-new condition, ready to keep the loyal passengers of AirTran moving comfortably and reliably for many more years to come.

Partnering closely with Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL) Management and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), AirTran has successfully secured a dedicated TSA fast lane exclusively for its most loyal customers.

Effective immediately, members of the AirTran A+ Rewards frequent flyer program and passengers holding First Class tickets will have access to this expedited security checkpoint at Atlanta Hartsfield. This new dedicated lane is designed to drastically reduce wait times, ensuring a seamless and stress-free transition from the terminal to the tarmac.
