AusConnect Announces Strategic Restructure and Fleet Modernisation

Sydney, Australia – AusConnect today announced a major strategic restructuring of the airline in response to sustained increases in global fuel prices and declining yields across several international markets. These changing economic conditions have required difficult but necessary decisions to ensure the long-term sustainability and competitiveness of the airline.

Effective immediately, AusConnect's remaining Boeing 747 fleet has been permanently grounded, with several aircraft entering early retirement. We recognise this decision has disrupted the travel plans of thousands of passengers across our international network, and we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience. Wherever possible, affected customers have been re-accommodated onto services operated by our Boeing 777-300ER fleet, ensuring the continuation of key international routes.

As part of this restructuring, AusConnect also regrets to announce that approximately 5,400 employees have been made redundant. This was an extremely difficult decision and one that was not taken lightly. The changes are necessary to align our workforce with our revised operational requirements and to ensure AusConnect remains a strong and viable competitor within the Australian aviation market.

While today marks a challenging chapter for our airline, it is not without hope. As our domestic operations continue to expand and additional Boeing 777-300ER aircraft join the fleet over the coming years, we are committed to offering former employees opportunities to return to the AusConnect family wherever possible.

Looking ahead, AusConnect will place renewed emphasis on strengthening its domestic network, reinforcing the market that has long been the foundation of our success. By focusing investment on profitable growth, operational efficiency and fleet modernisation, we are confident the airline will emerge stronger and better positioned for the future.

We thank our employees, customers and the Australian community for their continued support during this period of transition.

Together, we are building the next chapter of AusConnect.
