East Direct Airways enters the Jet Age with Boeing 727 operations and studies future short-haul jet acquisitions.

East Direct Airways today announced the successful completion of a major phase in its fleet development program, marking the airline's full entry into the Jet Age.

The company has recently introduced five Boeing 727-100 aircraft under lease agreements, strengthening its position as one of the region's most progressive air carriers. The new tri-jets will operate alongside the airline's fleet of Convair 990A and Sud Aviation Caravelles, providing increased capacity, improved scheduling flexibility, and higher passenger comfort standards.

Company officials stated that the Boeing 727 has already demonstrated exceptional performance on medium-range routes and will play a key role in supporting the airline's continued expansion throughout domestic and international markets.

"The introduction of the Boeing 727 represents a significant milestone in the history of East Direct Airways," a company spokesman declared. "It reflects our confidence in the future growth of air transportation and our determination to provide our passengers with the most modern equipment available."

As part of a continuing modernization effort, East Direct Airways has also commenced an evaluation of next-generation short-haul jet transports. Among the aircraft currently under consideration are the Boeing 737-100 and the Douglas DC-9.

Either type would eventually replace a portion of the airline's Handley Page Herald Mk.100 turboprop fleet, allowing East Direct Airways to further expand all-jet operations while improving operating efficiency and reducing journey times.

The company emphasized that no final selection has yet been made, although studies indicate that both aircraft offer attractive performance characteristics for the airline's developing route structure.

With the successful introduction of the Boeing 727 and the continued operation of its Convair 990A and Caravelle fleets, East Direct Airways enters a new era of growth and modernization, prepared to meet the increasing demands of the world's rapidly expanding air transport market.
