Anglian Air Services has today announced it's two Concordes, the last in existence, will be retired by the end of the year.
Having operated the type since 1997, for much of their life they actually returned a profit much to the surprise of investors.
However, in recent months the ageing aircraft are becoming unsustainable to run, with some sources quoting the services are running at a loss between $1.5-$2M per week.
The two aircraft will be placed into the airline's heritage collection.
Airline sources say that there are currently no plans to replace the Concorde routes, quoting 'operating very large aircraft on long haul routes does not align with the business's core strategy, the Concorde project was a temporary exception to allow the world to experience these historic aircraft as long as possible'
