Venezuelan flag carrier Lineas Aereas de Venezuela is opening the first aviation museum in its home country, today.
The airline recently decomissioned its non-bypass straight turbojet engined fleet of Boeing 720 and 707-220 aircraft, which are on display, as well as the airline's very first aircraft, a 1952 built Martin 4-0-4.
The opening ceremony is attended by the President of the Republic of Venezuela, Rafael Caldera, as well the CEO of United Aircraft, the parent company of Lineas Aereas de Venezuela's sole engine manufacturer, Pratt & Whitney. In this capacity United Aircraft is a co-sponsor of the newly opened museum.
The only attendee who seemed sad was Standard Gas Corporation's CEO Moe Fuel, who said: "These lovely turbojets, it's terrible news for us to see them go. Whenever we saw their smoke trails on the horizon, on approach to Caracas, we knew the fuel bill was gonna be tremendous."
Lineas Aereas de Venezuela CEO Cedric3108 was overjoyed with happiness, though: "Today we get to celebrate two great things at once; we see the delivery of state-of-the-art new aircraft and that in turn allows us to gift these historic and beautiful birds to the nation."
