JEJU - For several years, two Lisunov Li-2 aircraft were sitting idle at Yeouido Airport in Seoul. Two months ago, both aircraft were flown to Jeju in order to be used on domestic flights from the volcanic island south of the Korean peninsula. Currently operating 15 aircraft with another one on order, Korean Airways has been the way of connecting to the island in such a short time. While the Korean government looks suspiciously at the airline due to the Soviet aircraft (and the fact that the DPRK flag is vaguely visible on the tail of the original two aircraft), the CEO has assured Syngman Rhee that the airline is not communist run. With the Korean War still fresh in the memories, the airline is looking towards a future replacement of the current Li-2 fleet.
