TASHKENT - As part of the fleet renewal program, Tujue Airways was pushing design bureaus to develop new aircraft to replace the license build Lisunov Li-2 aircraft. Since the development of a brand new, state of the art turboprop aircraft will take some time, the airline will operate a new piston engine aircraft as an interim solution.

The aircraft selected is the Ilyushin Il-14P, a development of the earlier Ilyushin Il-12. While the Il-12 was produced at the Moscow Machinery Plant Nr.30, the Il-14P will be manufactured in Tashkent at Factory Nr.84. The Lisunov Li-2, which is also being produced in Tashkent, was produced in huge numbers. With 673 airframes build and 456 being in active service today, the aircraft forms the backbone of the regional fleet for many airlines. "With the Il-14, Tujue Airways will switch over to a real Soviet aircraft. the transfer to the Il-14 fleet is a temporary solution, we believe in Soviet technology. Soon the Soviet skies will be dominated with Soviet aircraft", the CEO said.
