Aircraft Routing Question

If I schedule,say a B77F from City A to City B I usually get the dreaded pink notice telling I can't do it, that I have to find a faster plane (faster than Mach .85???) or run it every other day which means using 2 planes, 3 if I want a daily schedule.  Then I look and see the Scrzgldp Airways is running the same route, 7 days a week, using the exact same aircraft type I am using but only using one airframe.  How do you do that exactly?  Where do you put your maintenance?  What am I missing here?
