Choosing HQ Airport

Maybe this belongs in a feature request; then again, maybe I'm missing something in the interface. I'd like to see beyond the top 20 destinations by demand that are listed when viewing an airport for HQ selection at the start.

Please no "why would you want to do that?" responses. I'm not asking for reasons why I don't need this info. I'm asking how to find the info.

"Why would I want to do that?" you ask. For the challenge, I would like to see what it is like trying to start out with modern light prop aircraft on short routes hauling <30 pax per flight. For this start, I'm trying to find an airport that offers a combination of the following:

  • at least a few very short routes with enough demand to run at least 4 to 5 flights per day at 85% PLF
  • plentiful short routes
  • destinations with very short runways are a plus
  • Low or no slot fees

This is hard to do if the only routes I can assess before making my choice are the top 20 by demand as many of these are far longer than I want to go for quite some time in my journey. I'd like to find out just how viable an airline built one of my favorite irl aircrafts--pilatus pc-12. I'm not limiting myself to pilatus pc-12. Really depends on the used market and production. Ultimately, I want ultra small for the fun of it. It will probably fail. I don't care.

Again, don't tell my why I shouldn't try to do this. I'm looking for help with finding this info in the interface before choosing my HQ.

I don't think it's possible to see that level of detail until you're in the game world.

What you could do is join the game world anywhere, do your research on prospective spots using route planning, then bankrupt and relocate to your new destination. You'll use up one of your bankrupt resets, but it's worth it imo. That's what I did when I started the game.

Also recently I joined a world that was about 30 years ahead of the current world and took screenshots of all the demand on airports around my area (from the starting screen) but also in game world, so I could better plan, and it also gave the opportunity to see how airlines in the future operated in the areas I was, what planes they chose to go with etc, all extremely valuable to a new player.

And also note that you have 30 mins of "free" preview time in the scenario... = join, create airline, browse anything for 30 mins. And if you decide to leave the game the 5 credits are then returned.

=> also useful for more detailed research if you need that....

(But just be aware of the time... 31 minutes = no refund, 30 minutes = ok)
