Designate maintenance base for heavy (c/d) checks

Hi all,

I think it would be good to add in a bit of extra realism to the maintenance actions for aircraft. What I would propose is that airlines with multiple bases can have an option to open there own maintenance facilities at an airport of there choice for heavy checks, and when these checks are due the aircraft must be ferried and may throw the schedule out of sync for a day or so.

This would very similar to what BA currently operate (all A320 maintenance is done at Glasgow so they loose a bit of time wit the bird)  or any other large airline.

By default all maintenance could be subcontracted like fuel and an option to add a maintenance contract option for different classes could be developed, again though this weighed up against where they are based, such as would an airline in Europe want to take maintenance for there ATR fleet in Hong Kong even if it is the cheapest option as it would take days to fly it there.

This I think would add the realism of when you become a big enough player you can choose to open maintenance operations, and it could even be looked at where alliance partners can share facilities.

I am writing this early this morning and on my phone so apologies for spelling mistakes or if it doesn't make sense. I can clarify later on this evening.

Thanks,

Colin

Cool Idea!! I like how you could implement it in a similar way to the Fuel contracts!

Maybe it could just apply to C/D checks as they don't actually get onto the schedules themselves - I cant think of a way that that could work since as you say, the maintenance might be cheapest halfway across the planet.

But if you're doing a 30 day D check it might be worth flying it that far away :-)
