Salary creep?

Good morning.  This time yesterday morning I did something really 'stupid' (or so I thought) - I accidentally reset all staff salaries to the default values (before I had made coffee!)

The initial effects seemed quite disastrous:  Staff morale dropped from 100% to 42%(ish) for all groups and the company image fell from 100% to 48%  I wondered how the effects could be so harsh for what was surely a small drop in salary; I've never increased the salaries above the default values. Having checked the figures one real day later I am shocked to see that my wage bill had dropped from approx. £370M per week to around $260M :o :o  which means that all my salaries were 40% higher than the default values.

Is it normal for the salaries to creep so high over the period of a long game (this is GW1 - 66 years into a 70 year game)?  Since I don't know for sure what the salaries previously were, I thought others could check to see if the same thing has happened to them.

Now for the long term effects:  It cost me $1.3Bn in bonuses to bring morale back up to around 90% but I will recover that in twelve weeks of savings under the new, strict wage regime and it's lucky that I'm cash rich I suppose.  Company image has already rebuilt into the mid sixties but I doubt it will ever climb back to 100% with only four years remaining.  My operating revenue fell by only around 5% so, even before it began to recover I was actually making MORE profit than before due to the huge savings and I predict that, within a game year, my profits will actually have doubled!

So - does anyone else find themselves with hugely inflated salaries?

As long as staff moral stay in green, you are oke.

Yes,it also cost Company image to drop, which means a lower level in pax.this increase with time again.
Also flight delay increase because of lower moral of staff, but this will be decrease with time.

It take time for marketing to correct the company image in time  :)

Yeah I understand how it works but I'm more concerned with how the salaries got to 40% above 'suggested' in the first place!

Leaving salaries in automatic mode long-term is how it happens. The automation raises salaries by percentages, not by union negotiation. It should really only be used if you're going on vacation.

And on that note, I need to be less lazy with my salaries!  ;D
