That's excellent, actually. Means noone is going to attack them now.

I agree.  It opens up new strategies which you don't always get to try. For example, adding very large aircraft, knowing that a competitor can't beat you down on frequency.  Juggling the slots can be cumbersome, but it's just a new challenge and, to be honest, if you put yourself in a situation where this is likely to happen, you should be planning your slots right from the start (for example, scheduling your mid-haul 737 flights with 1hr50 turnaround instead of 1hr so that you can replace them with A300 later).

I am in IST, currently #3 on the market, and I don't complain. Some extra pain present - no doubt, but it is compensated by being more interesting, too.

IST is the most slot restricted airport in the world if we consider only 5:00-23:55 slots.

The only significant downside IMO is that you have to be online hunting for slots (which is tough for me with my daily work loads) more than you have to think of development. But, hell, that's life!  ;)

Actually, it is the opposite. One of my two big competitors just flies pretty much everywhere at whatever (sometimes odd) times he was successful getting the slots for. Well, we'll see how that goes once there's a fleet change  ;D
