I know tech stops are a bad idea buts im experimenting

Im trying to fly from Venice marco polo to JFK a distance of just over 3500NM

Now my fleet is made up for ERJ-135 and E-170LR/195AR which have at max 2400NM

SO i tried to create a route VCE-JFK via Narsarsuaq Airport (greenland)

venice-Narsarsuaq is 1800NM ( within range of the E-170/195)
then Narsarsuaq- JFK 1600 NM

This route is within the range of my aircraft .

YET when i go to create the route and and select my aircraft, the game tells me it cannot fly this route????

WHY NOT ?

Probably because you didn't configure a tech stop on the return flight.

You have to add the techstop for the return leg as well.

Other than that, check runway length, maybe it's too short for your planes to take off.

Or check if they accept planes of your size to land at that airport.

That, and most airports in Greenland are closed 17-08, which makes them a headache to use for a tech stop. The only ERJ flights I've been able to setup through the atlantic were with tech stops in St Johns.

And it was not a good idea.

I am flying Munich-Gander-Dallas with a Superjet. Makes no sense really. Demand is 250, I supply 80-100 seats or so. There is no competition. And I just get around 20 passengers.

In the regional challenge I have something like 50+ E-195ARs flying techstopped routes to the Hawaiian destinations via Burbank from ATL and via Monterey from DEN.

Each one way flight takes about 11 hours leaving 1 hour for turns at each end. It's a pretty amusing operation.

are they profitable?

They are profitable and were profitable even with fuel prices into the $1800+ range. Currently fuel is ~$1300

Are a sampling.

Part of the reason they are profitable is because I face 0 competition on the routes. Apparent profit on owned planes averages around $450K/week.

I have noticed that while there is some F demand the F pax really, really are not ok with the 11 hour trip in a E-jet. Even if it's the only option in a world in which the Fokker 120 is the biggest plane in the sky. Even when it's the only way for them to get to the mainland.

re F and C demand...outside the challenge game, which I agree was very amusing (I had a hub in Manaus!)...C and F demand take a long time to build, even in the era appropriate parts of the long worlds (1960-1980s).  It will eventually build over time and do well (i.e., Tokyo/Anchorage/East Coast US)..but once the first player starts coming in a non-stop your demand is quickly destroyed in the front of the plane.
