Staff Balancing

How are my thousands of personnel not smart enough to auto balance pilots between bases?  Meaning, I just changed leets and have a lot of excess medium pilots, I retrained to very large pilots....but I cannot get those damn pilots from KPHL to KLAX....why is this?

Here's why -

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, there were no bases in airwaysim. The only out of base flying was ABCBA routes and all staffing was done at the HQ level.

Then, a new feature to have bases was introduced. To go along with this feature, complexity was bolted on to the staff pages and the UI was kept fairly simple even though there were a group of HR folks drinking in the background. This lead to bugs like this where the presentation of the total staff not broken down by bases was causing weird rounding errors. The system would also hire staff at random that were not needed. And of course, the system would also do some wonky things with salary requests and crew type morale. The ultimate fix was to give us base by base staffing like we have today, as it became obvious that the drunken HR folks were incapable of reporting aggregate numbers to the CEO without breaking something. They also needed to learn SQL. Of course, once things were broken out, there were still weird things going on.

So, that's the general background as to why the page is the way it is today, which hopefully answers your question.

Now, the question you didn't ask - how to balance staff? Well, I could be snarky and refer you to the manual. However, I'd just advise that you only click the rebalance staff on ONE staff group that is not balanced, then click save. Do this for one group at a time and never more, else, a tigger will bounce on your head.

i have done that though, and it tells me that all my bases are fully staffed...I want to send medium pilots to KLAX from KPHL, and then retrain them to be very large pilots...without having to lay them off...I have an excess of pilots at one base, that I can uses for future planes at another...how can I just move say 40 pilots to that bases (which is currently at 100%)?  The only way I see to do it, is turn off the automatic hiring...staff a bunch of planes with no pilots, then balance...but this is dumb..there should be a relocate pilots/staff option...I do appreciate the help, and it makes sense what you said above...I have hundreds if not thousands of drunk HR people at all my airlines...

Oh. Now I see what you're asking.  You're going to have to visit the paper store for some pink slips as I do not think that use case was designed into the interface. Perhaps filing a bug report about not being able to do that without sacking staff will give you some jollies.

10-4, Thanks Schro...Thats what I thought...Firing Time, but it shouldnt have to be that way, I should be able to send the pilots fro PHL to LAX no problem.

Maybe I need more coffee, but what about retaining first then balancing?
