Paying off a lease/ buying the aircraft

When buying an aircraft, do you also have to pay off the lease? i.e. is it best to buy it just before the lease expires?

Yes.

From "Negotiate to buy aircraft" view: "The cost to buy this aircraft is the remaining cost of the leasing period added with the value of the aircraft."
