HUGE Airlines

How can an airline (within 8 months of flying) have over 40 aircraft? Another has 47 747's on order!!!!!! Wouldn't he had to have had 6 gazillion to make the order???? Where in the hell did all that money come from so quick???? Is there some cheat code that I need?

I understand there's 24 hours in a day, etc....but how can that happen?

Pike

It's a good question.

Right now, I have 30 aircraft--all widebodies.  I started with a 74 from EWR to LHR, then added another and another.  I started very slow, but things started snowballing pretty quick.  This was the strategy given to me by a very kind individual who has been willing to show me the ropes.

But as for what you are talking about......I have no idea.  I do know that Tokyo Haneda lends itself to some astounding early numbers, considering that many domestic routes from there have 10k+ demand.  However, from what I saw in game 2, this tapers off in the late game, as Haneda has no int'l demand and little room for growth as the years go on (using Okinawa as a int'l base not-withstanding).

But one airline in particular more than any other certainly defies explanation, as little it has done makes sense in terms of the amount of money made.

Who knows.

I am sure we would all like to know how a "magical airline" became so HUGE in such a short time. However once we all find out, this game will be no fun  ;D

Amazing numbers! Kind of makes the game for the rest of us a matter of crunching numbers and praying that we can expand at all.

Pike

Well, as far as I know he's new.  Not a beta tester.  So where he got the knowledge, I don't know.

And frankly, I don't care.  He has made some choices that will sink him soon enough.  Plus, the attitude he has will make more than a few enemies, meaning people will be gunning for his routes.  Now one or two doing this, he could handle.....but a dozen?  Between his costs and the coming competition, I would say he doesn't finish the game without a B/K.

As for how he managed the growth, well I think it is worthy of inquiry.

The one thing I will say about this game though, is that you can have alot of fun without worrying about being the biggest.  Plenty of goals out there that are just as worthy.  Mine at the moment is to be the main carrier at my hub.  Plenty of challenge there.  The game can be alot of different things.  Don't let one mega op ruin it for you.

just looked at the airline and i see what you mean, I can see how he might have gotten that big though his airport is pretty much in the middle of many many major airports and he probably had a few test runs in game 1 & 2.

jamboy2378

It is kind of strange though...the airline that's at the top of the profit % has two jets and two routes and has 25 million in the bank. Is that all there is to the game? Get big jets? I'm running around with 3-4 planes and @ 80% or so and making nothing. I'm going ot have to start charging for the in-flight movies

If you're running 50 pax prop planes at 100% to a bunch of airports you'll go out of business?

But as you say; the game will always be good if you have a goal. Just not sure how much fun it is if one person manages to buy 47 747's so that the wait for 747's becomes a loooong one.

Echoco

I've been watching my own profit level and I've concluded it related to money in the bank, the longer you sit around not spending the higher your profit margin. i think if the larger airlines had enough with expansion (ordering) their profit margin will climb pretty quick.

I'm pretty happy with my 5 props, my worries aren't whose competing or whose bigger but which plane to choose and how to replace my fleet more efficiently.

747 can kiss my tushy any day cus I like the sound of propellers slicing through the air

jamboy2378

HAHAHAHAHAHA..............not a year in and the guy has 700 million dollars! Way to go Sami...build that in...

ban2

if he's not a year in don't forget those costly and time consuming c & d checks are looming which have slowed me down as i have to make sure i have the money in the bank for my new orders.
maybe we'll see some huge bankruptcies looming????

jagalubnan

How well you do is based on:
1) Experience.
2) Route
2.1) How much each leg of the route will cost pax
3) Aircraft
3.1) The a/c that you put onto a route, as well as the commonality of the aircraft in your fleet are a huge factor.
4) Marketing - lots of it

Just because he's doing well doesn't mean it's a bug. What year is it in the game you're talking about?

Sami

Magic carpet seems to rely heavily on business / first class longhaul pax... there are the big bucks. And all you need is enough money / loan to make the lease downpayment for the planes, as he is operating on entirely leased fleet too.

Plus to the comments on this thread. Hope that you really didn't think that operating 100 50-seaters will earn you as much as opering 100 longhaul planes? It all depends on the strategy and style you wish to manage the airline.

swiftus27

There is much more risk and reward in long haul flying.

Some of you in the airports he basically uses as a second hub need to wise up quick or you will never ever be able to compete for those routes.  Instead of combining efforts and fighting him, you will fight each other over the few scraps he leaves behind.

No I don't think anyone thinks that Sami, and I frankly don't see where that point was made.  I also don't think anyone should be able to build that size of airline that quickly.  It's also odd that this guy has done it faster than anyone else in any of the other games.  It is obviously of no concern to you, so I guess it is a moot point.

whilst it does seem like an extreme sort of profit i dont really mind, sometimes you can "over expand" and the game bites you back in the arse, i would have loved this game to be up to present day so we go through the 2007/2008 highs on fuel bills, there would only be a handful making it until the end of the game.

remember chaps its a marathon not a sprint ;)

ban2

and if you don't want the competition from the big guys remember this is a 1 hub game...start up in a smaller airport there is lots out there, and plenty of profit to be made from them. i'm pretty sure there is more than 350 decent hubs out there ;)

Dazwalsh

yeah i prefer the smaller airports, although ones which will still provide a fair size of an airline, i dread to think the status of LHR in 10 game years

I believe these first games have been made easy with a good reason. It is better to give new players time to learn how this simulation works, and not to force everybody to learn it the hard way with several bankcruptcies.
It will get more difficult as C-checks start to eat your profits and competitors start to come to share your best routes. Rapid growth in the beginning is only good thing, we get into real competition sooner.

Yeah, only 8% of the game time gone.

ban2

totally agree sundaypilot my C checks are kicking in now, even had 1 D check already (ouch!). i've also got a new plane arriving next month so i'm trying to make sure i have the money in the bank for that. really need to get more planes but if i want to stay in business i'm forced to wait a while, around 6-7 months i think.

Dazwalsh

yeah but as a small airline with a fuel efficient fleet of props it will be fun watching the big boys and their collosal fleets of quad jets go under do you not think? haha
