Hi guys, as new member of the AirwaySim community and to me it seemed a good idea to open  a small thread where people can have a small offtopic chitchat or welcome each other to this forum.  :)

So let me start introduce myself a bit;

As a 25 year old, living in the Netherlands i've work 2 years as platform supervisor at Schiphol Airport (Amsterdam). Unfortunalty, after graduating i had to give up this great parttime job, and become a fulltime webdeveloper. 'Once worked on a airport, you will never feel at home again somwhere else'...this is really true! After 1,5month i really start missing the 'aviation-buzz'. Luckely i'm starting upcomming november with realising my dream: becomming a pilot. Although i haven't done any Aviation managment study, maybe i can help the project with some of my other experiences..

Anyway, after playing multiple airline/airport and flightsim (managing)games i'm glad i found this project. It really looks promosing .

Time for a cup of coffee..!

Sami

The lead coder monkey (me!!) is shortly 26 years, from southern Finland. I've been involved in many web projects (www.fsnordic.net for example) and also been using flight sims for ages. The flight sim hobby partly lead me to my current profession - flying airplanes for living ... Which is kinda fun work  ;D  Currently flying on the right seat of an European mid-sized jet for a Finnish airline (not to advertise any more on that - play a bit of Sherlock Holmes and figure out the rest yourself ). And while I am off-duty I am focusing on these web-projects that I have.

AirwaySim was started as a little test of my own in the early months of 2007 and seemed to be a interesting and challenging project so I decided to go ahead with it. Coding of the project is by yours truly but many people have helped with ideas, data and testing so far.

There seems to be a lot of interest for the sim but also when games expand it may use rather much resources (beta testing with 300+ players will show that finally then). We are running the project on our own dedicated server among other projects from me and the other few server users. In case the project expands a lot in the future, it may need a fully own server or at least an upgrade to the current one. So it might be possible that once the game is released to public, there will be also commercial aspects involved (meaning that there will be free "demo" games that are a bit limited on play time and then "full" games that would cost few euros to play - but definitely not that expensive as one other airline game (that is about to close anyway soon) which seems to sell for ~20 eur per game. And also the feature list already seems to top other similar projects in the market, and more is coming.  <-- but don't be alarmed of that. It's just one plan at the moment and not a final decision. Plus if this realizes, then be assured that all who have helped with the project will receive free credits to the game to compensate their help  :)

You can read from the site news / forums about the progress..

I seem to be the "baby" in the forums ;D
I'm Paul, 14. Still at school, I'm determined to be an airline pilot.
I live in the UK and have taken a interest in this project.
I've tried the other web-based airline sim games that are around, but I would like something more realistic.
Seems like I found the right place!
AirwaySim looks really promising, like the new website design, and I look forward to its release.
Keep up the good work, Sami!

Hi all,

Just found this game, can't wait for it to arrive. Looks far better than the equivalents out there... will be interesting to compare it to airline 6 (the offline version that is, the online one is rather pricy for someone who is skint cos of funding the next item in my intro)!

Anyways, I'm Hugh and in the middle of studying to get my frozen ATPL with a UK school!

No doubt se y'all in game!

HJ  ;D

AirwaySim is still in development, we'll have to hang on a bit longer yet!  :(

Well what can I say...

I'm 17 years old and I go to Upper Secondary school here in Finland. Unfortunately almost any profession in aviation is unreachable for me because of my bad eyesight and terrible math skills... :P

That doesn't stop me for being intrested in aviation though. One could say I'm a pro flightsimmer, whereas I don't count myself as one. ;) My simming is rather seasonal and I like digging deep into the systems and oparating philosophies of passenger jets. I'm also a enthusiastic writer at the FlightSimulator Nordic's forums and one of the site's News Editors.

My other intrests are motorsports, especially rally racing. I also like to photograph things like rally, planes and other stuff always when there's an opportunity to do that. I also drive rally sims (RBR rocks) and hang around in the internet most of my freetime. At school I'm intrested in subjects like history, psychology, social science and english.

That's about it. ;D

Well, what to tell. Almost 35 year old married man from northern Finland, next from EFOU. I do not have any aviation licenses. Only thing what i have flown are couple of RC planes. And of course flight simming. Since times of Commodore 64.

Nowdays i work with computers. As more detailed. With storage (starting from terbyte, ending to petabyte) and backup solutions. And with computer virtualization. These are my main aspects at work. Mainly storage, as i also give modified storage system courses.

And that computer related work is one reason why i'm here. As i work one of service side admins on FSNordic i also try to take care of server side of this Airline simulation game. No nothing about game itself, but hosting operating system and things like that.

Other intrests. Motor sports and cars (usually Italians). Photography, movies, literature, RC-stuff. My oldest kid got intrested of RC-cars, so i had to buy couple of cars to me..  eh, him...  And sometime feels like i have more hobbies that time to do anything. Looks like i'm intrested about anything. Or almost anything. You surely can count out things like folk dances...
