C & D checks of idle aircraft?

Karl

I have looked, but I cannot find information in the Forum.

I have 4 aircraft that were leased new: each one on a 5-year lease.  They are a drain on my finances, and I have learned that it is a better financial deal to have them sit idle and pay the leases than to operate them.  I cannot afford to buy them or to terminate the leases.

Unfortunately, their C checks are coming up.

1) I usually have aircraft automatically go in for C checks.  If, I uncheck automatic C checks in the settings page, what will happen when the aircraft is ready for its check?

2) If I re-check the automatic C check button, will past due checks be performed automatically or will the aircraft remain without its check?

3) What can I do to keep these usless aircraft form having their expensive checks performed?  Anything?   ???

4) Do I have any option for getting rid of these aircraft?

C-checks and D-checks are on a yearly and every 8 year rotation regardless of flight hours. If you do not preform the C checks as scheduled, even if grounded, you will get penalized for missed checks. If you un-check auto checks and planes have expired checks, they will almost immediately go in for the missed check if you re-check the auto checks box.

As for getting rid of them, 721's are in high demand. IF you can buy out the leases, you an place them on the open market. You should be able to get at least a small premium for them and maybe recoup your costs. Otherwise, after 6 months (10% of the agreed term) you can terminate the leases at a cost of 50% of the remaining lease term.

If you don't want spare aircraft checked, just place them on the used market for a ridiculously high amount that nobody will pay. If they do, win win for you as you got a huge premium. If they don't - well at least you don't have the aircraft checked.

/stupid me, didn't notice it was about leases...

Thanks.  I am stuck with them - at least for a couple of years until I can either make enough money to buy them (diubtful) or buy out the leases (maybe).

So, as noted in the first post, letting them sit idle, paying the monthly lease fee and the yearly C check is still cheaper than flying them!

No you won't. You'll only get penalised if you try and fly them with expired checks.

Yep. As soon as the day changes.

You can avoid doing the checks, but it takes a bit of work. You'll need to leave auto checks turned off, and you'll need to look at your planes any time you're going to be away from the computer. If you'll be away for 10 hours thanks to work/sleep, you'll ned to check for planes having checks in the next 20 days, and manually do them before you log off. That way all your checks get done, except for the 727s you leave parked. However, if you stuff up and forget to put a plane in before logging off, or you're away longer than you expected, you may come back to a dying airline thanks to one of the other planes getting you fined.
