Alliance - pending application

Is it possible to withdraw an application to join an alliance? I accidentally applied to join when really I was just trying to see what the application form looked like!

Whilst my mistaken application is pending, I cannot apply to join a different alliance.

Just drop a PM to one of the managers of the alliance with the pending application and ask them to decline it if they wouldn't mind.  Can't see a reason why they wouldn't do it straight away for you.
