Will it be possible to upgrade aircraft  that age? In order to give them a longer service life?

I know the 727 and DC-10's that belongd to fed ex were upgraded to give them longer lives and make them  more efficient!For example the Dc-10's were reeninged and given updated avionics, and dubbed the MD-10

Aircraft refurbishment would be a neat addition. :)
