What disturbs me a little bit:

When You have one airline with two old constellations running a longdistance route with one refuelling stop, You attract more passengers, than with one 707 flying directly. The pricing is similar, the seatquality on the 707 is better. No flight starting before 6.00 or after 22.00.

Personally I would always take the faster connection, if the pricing difference is not too big.

I think, the bonus for having multiple flights on one route is far too high, compared to other factors, killing the larger aircraft, like A300 compared to a DC-9.

Depending on the time of the scenario, there are arguments for both sides. In scenarios like the current DotM, this discrepancy emerges on a strong scale at the beginning and will nivelate with newer and more efficient a/c coming into service. You will find quite a few threads discussing this from the past.
