Amount of seats on an international flight to breakeven.

What is the average amount of seats required to "breakeven" on international, long haul flights? I am interested in several +4000nm routes, though they have around 60 average daily passengers. If I fly DC-86 or B703s, would these routes be viable? I know they won't be huge money makers, but as long as they don't loose money, I'm happy.

Anyone know about this?

Which time era is this? I've heard in jet age times it's generally worth flying the long haul routes of 100+ pax.

I am in Jet Age 4, though I wouldn't mind knowing what's true in the other worlds as well.

Thanks!

You probably could break even on those routes, but your margins would be very small.

The breakeven point also depends greatly on the plane and current cost of fuel.

Since I like to maintain my margins rather than flying for net zero income, here's about what I'd consider:

Jet Age
- 150+ pax on a DC-8-60 series
DOTM
- 120+ pax on a 727-200Adv in a heavy premium config (3/20/120ish) (you can do 5000nm+ with a fuel stop)
- 140+ pax on a 727-200Adv in more standard config (15/144)
- 180+ (with at least 12 C class) on a 757-200
