Change title of game

As I've played this for the past two years I've come to realize that this game really isn't a simulation about running an airline but more a 'Facebook' style click-em game.

Sitting and clicking refresh for hours on the used airline screen should do one of two things, (1) Reward you with a decent plane, or (2) Make you wonder why you ARE sitting for hours playing something so utterly frustrating.

With 400 people playing each installment maybe the game should be called 'Hunt for planes'.

It sounds like you're saying that which plane you purchase on the used market determines how well your airline does. If you've been playing for 2 years you should know thats simply not true.

In the early stages of the game, try purchasing cheaper (or just more avialable) aircraft and more of them. They might not be so economic, but they'll get you on the ladder quicker than refreshing the Boeing and Airbus pages all day. If you know your stuff, you can find the bargain aircraft that other players would disregard as junk.

Of course, if you're beyond that stage then you might aswell be buying new from the manufacturer.

And it's so much more than that anyway. It's not what aircraft you buy, it's what you do with them...  :P

And what solution do you suggest?

At the beginning of the game it was possible for literally everybody do build up a small and decent airline earning enough money to be completely able to order new aircraft.

Even at this moment in DotM it is possible to get aircraft from the used market and make enough profit to order new aircraft after few real time days.

It is not the fault of sami or of AirwaySim if people choose the B707 or DC-8 at really high starting fuel prices, make all those people fail (often multile times) hard.

To be more specific at your airline;
you fly DC-9 and B737-200Adv. Both types are refreshed often and the DC-9 stays on the used market often for serveral minutes. At the moment it's a DC-9-50 being on the market for 4 minutes till now.

Maybe you would earn more money without flying so much destinations? Or just stick to one fleet group and not two identical ones? This would improve your ability to order new aircraft what makes you independent from "Hunt for planes".

Curse, That explains it all.... I see the light now. Appreciate the input and I'll work on the 'two identical' problem you mention

Curse

Again a DC-9 on the market. DC-9-40... and a B737-200Adv and two B727-200.

I'll hire you as my operations/purchasing guy  :)

Curse

The DC-9-40 is still on the market. According to the fact I don't refresh the used market 60 times a minute and it took some time for me to create this post it is there for 7 minutes now.

As I said I see your problems, but without any good solution threads as this here are absolutely no help for sami to improve things.

Small example:
In DotM #2 there failed about 25 airlines out of Tokyo Narita. A friend of mine asked me what to do, so I told him to restart and get nothing than an A300 (DC-10 became too expensive at this moment). This made him $300-400k a week and now he has several DC-10 in his fleet and some more on order. Without waiting for the one or two DC-10 that appear for five seconds on the used market every 24 hours.

In AWS there are more ways then the direct one. :)

Curse

Now the DC-9-40 is gone. Over 15 minutes available...

Curse

Another 2x DC-9-40 appeared...

I usually can't check the used market but once in the morning before I go to work, and then maybe a few times when I get home.  I typically run into the problem about not being able to find good AC.  In DOTM I started off using the AN-10, and F.27, even though yeah the BAC 1-11 DC-9 or 737 would be what I wanted.  I now have many BAC 1-11s, of which most I was able to order new from the profits of the AN-10.  I also built a good airline in MT4 based in Japan with TU-154, and TU-204 before deciding to move bases, and actually BKD while doing the waiting game for 737 classics later in the game.
