Which Aircraft to Use?

From what I can see, the demand out of Belfast is good but not that good to pay for an A32x or 737NG type of aircraft.
Plus, as many of the routes that are already operated by medium-sized aircrafts (Q400, ATR, CRJ and EMB), to add large sized aircraft would hurt your LF, thus I would use a similar airplane to your competitors.
The best airplane in the 100-120 pax scope is the E195 IMHO. It's fast, can turn it around shortly, it's medium sized (good for pilot wages), has range and pax-scope (from 68 to 118 seats), and best of all: you can kill the competitors that operate larger airplanes.

But that's just me, I'm a fan of the E-Jets from previous game worlds!

E-Jets are better if you make them to fly 3 or more flights a day, and given that Belfast has a LOT of airports less than 400nm away, you can make more than 3 a day.

Pilot Oatmeal

Yea your right, but what about the routes that are 1000NM away like Malaga and Palma de Majorca, can I make money on these routes?

ArcherII

Yes you can, but first try to concentrate on the shorter routes so you can have a greater revenue. Anyway, you can serve Mallorca and 2 very short routes in the same day. But if you're going to serve those 1000nm routes be sure to avoid competition in this early stages, try to build some money. This is true if you operate an E-Jet or an A32x or a transatlantic. Don't be shy on adding C-class, specially on long routes.

I suggest 717, since it's availability is unbeatable right now.

Pilot Oatmeal

717 vs Embraer 195... i think the embraer wins no?

Pilot Oatmeal

I've made the plunge and leased an embraer 195... i put it on routes to dusseldorf, oslo, and stuttgart... not many routes without competition so I've made do with these three, I will see if it produces a profit then i'll lease another one.

Any hints and tips would be extremely appreciated :)

Leasing just one unit of a type to judge its suitability for your airline is not very effective nor efficient.  To offset the commonality costs and associated overhead with adding a new fleet type, you really need to order multiple examples for such an experiment to be cost-effective.  I don't have any experience operating the E-jet family but from the sounds of it (with the small profit margins on regional a/c), you will be lucky to even make money just flying one of them.

Pilot Oatmeal

Okay well I leased a second one, However I'm having difficulty finding routes with zero competition... so I put the 2nd E-Jet on a route with small competition.  I have a feeling though that i'll be making less profit now though because it working the maths out i'm spending alot more on salaries now opening those 3 routes...we'll see though when my RI goes up and my LF goes up
