is there any aircraft that competes directly with the Embraer 195 series?   I want something with around the same capacity and range but without the 1250 order backlog ! lol :P

by the time the E195 comes out, I have to assume that the 737 classic series is no longer being produced.

717 is your best bet, ive used both and i prefer it over the e-195 of course if you plan on having a regional fleet then get the 195 because your can have all the e jets in the same fleet group. I wouldn't go over 600 miles in the 195 unless you don't don't have any competition. If found its not a profitable.

Trust me they are!  :)
To the OP, if you don't want the E195....well there's no choice other than the B717. The thing, though, is that the E195 is labelled "medium" and the 717 is "large", so more pilot costs.

That's mainly because the 717 is truly a variant of the MD 90

By what i gathered on line the 717(md-95) took into the great aspects of the original 727,dc-9-30, and the md-90 and rolled into one.  I really think it more closely is with the dc-9 line though. Especially since all the jet bridges at Atlanta are lowered to the dc-9 height level instead of the md-80,89 level.

I would really like to see Boeing re-design this plane and bring it back into possible a 3 by 3 seat a/c. Of course this won't happen because of the 737. But let's face it Boeing is going to need to come up with something new before long. I personally would like to see the return of side mounted engines.

Also does any one know why airtran never lowers the rear door on there 717? I see delta do it all the time when they are turning a plane around? Ideas?

Guess your only choice is 717 :) ... don't forget to use compact seating, you can get few extra seats like that

I think i'll just hold of for an embraer, the 717 is good but you have increased fuel consumption and pilot wages... not worth it with a fuel price this high :(
