Leasing out aircrafts & fleet commonality

Hi,
I have four 727s in my fleet. If I lease out all of them, would I still pay fleet commonality costs for the 727 type?

Even if they are up for sale, you don't pay commonality for them.

I've got a dozen A300's parked for a crazy high price on the used market that I'm going to start flying in a few game months over in DOTM

Well, many people laugh about that, as most of them don't know this tactics... that is how I store aircraft until I give them to my alliance mates...

They are only "in storage" when they are not "selling like hot cakes".

Don't forget your big dream of catching up with Dantes Air...
still I am saying: you should keep your planes flying to do that rather than letting them stand on the ground (see demotivator)

I caught up to him when he had a 10 year head start in ATB a few months ago. Its certainly doable. I've gotten very lazy and busy with life (flying around and such on real airplanes) and haven't done much of anything to my airline in the past 5 game years. I suppose that means I've got some catch up work to do.

Overall, the profits that I made flipping 757's much earlier in the game basically paid for all of my "in storage" planes that you see hanging out on the market, so its not like I'm out any money I wouldn't otherwise have had. Once the d-day of D-checking passes (May 1, 1993), I'll D-check the lot of them and put them in the air.

The whole concept that I was trying out was basically building a replacement fleet without incurring the commonality costs and have a more sudden transition between the fleet types. I've got hundreds of L10's and even more 727s - I'm not going to pay for 4 fleet types of commonality trying to transition hundreds of planes.

Well, an honest "good luck" for that... if you are THAT busy in RL you should mind, that changing a fleet of "100s" of planes "suddenly" will eat up hrs...

Actually, how I have them scheduled it shouldn't be too hard to do (especially the L10's) - most have a generous amount of turn time factored in to account for the slower cruise, and most only have 1 flight scheduled, thus, changing it out shouldn't be too hard. The geography of LAX sucks pretty bad for profitability though. You've got to fly 1500nm to find any passengers.... As far as RL time, I can schedule 100 planes in a couple of hours from scratch. Doesnt' take as long to reschedule them, so I can find an evening and a bunch of beer to get me through it. I do think catching a ride on a real DC-9-50 in the front of the bus is a great reason to neglect one's virtual airline  8).

My original game plan was to stick to 2 types until the end, the L1011 and 727.  The most direct replacements would be the A300 and 757 respectively, but there's simply not enough planes in the world or time for me to acquire enough to fully replace either fleet, thus, I'll probably just start replacing L1011's with A300's as they come up for their 16 year old D-check to gradually lower my costs (putting a hundred or so L1011's through that already at $15M a pop didn't help when I was on auto pilot).

Who knows, I'll probably get lazy and not bother and be content with top airline size by available and revenue passenger miles (the true measure of airline size).
