As of today, the Netherlands Antilles no longer exist. The BES-islands, Bonaire, Sint-Eustatius and Saba are now special municipalities of the Netherlands. Çuracao and Sint Maarten are now, like Aruba, constituent countries of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Just a heads-up for when The Modern Times 3 hits 10 October 2010, this should be edited then.

Does this mean AMS - BON is now a domestic flight? I think so.

All flights between mainland Nederland and Caribisch Nederland (Bonaire/Sint Eustatius/Saba) will be domestic. The same happens in the US with flights between mainland US and Hawaii ;)

umm..uff.. Without having to read that looong Wiki page, can someone explain what I need to change in AWS in regard of countries and airports? ;D

From another forum...
QuoteSince today (10.10.2010) the Dutch Antilles are not anymore. Resulted by local referenda the Caribbean islands Sint Eustatius, Saba and Bonaire have been added to the territory of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and have become special Dutch communcipals. Aruba, Sint Maarten and Curaçao are independent (automome) countries within the Kingdom. With this change the Netherlands expands the number of Dutch airports with 3: Flamingo Airport (Bonaire), F.D. Roosevelt Airport (Sint Eustatius) and Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport (Saba).

Huh? What happened? This came as a surprise to me... But I haven't been following the news lately...

Ah really... So basically, we still get them, we still have to pay them, they're just not called Antilles any longer...

I wonder how that benefits either side..

I don't think there are much benefits to this...  2 new countries have been formed and a couple of cities have become part of "mainland" The Netherlands...  But in the end, they all are part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands...

These islands belong to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, so I don't mind to pay for them. These islands have a great income from tourists. But why we have to pay to Bulgaria, Greece etc while our country is making losses? >:( Why don't you think about that?

Do you still need a passport now to access Bonaire? I needed one a year ago.

As per TIMATIC retrieved today, you still do need a passport. However, I believe it's only updated once a month.. Interesting question though.. You don't need a passport to visit any of the other municipalities in Holland, obviously..

As far as I know, yes. Since it will not have the same security level als the Netherlands. But they are aiming to change it around 2015.

Hey Sami,

Rotterdam Airport was renamed to Rotterdam The Hague Airport recently, maybe you can change that also when you will change the airport/country data.

Yours sincerely
