iPhone

I am getting my new iPhone in a few days. I was wondering if it was possible to play AirwaySim on it. Would be nice if somebody could answer me on that. :)

Thanks.

AWS works on iPhone.  Not perfectly, but it is good enough.

Yes and no.

There is no flash on the iPhone, so no graphs for anything are available.  So that means no demand graphs, marketshare graphs, budget graphs, etc.  You can do pretty much everything, but without demand graphs it's not really possible to plan routes.  Only time I've ever opened routes from my phone was to snag slots at LHR when they were available, since I already knew I'd never be able to grab enough to fill demand on that route.  Works fine for ordering new and used aircraft, taking out loans, browsing the forums, checking your income statement and so on.

I wind up using it a bunch when the leasing market is tight for whatever aircraft I need so that I can check in during the day and see if any are available.

Oh, one more thing that sometimes doesn't work, the aircraft seating configuration tool occasionally doesn't properly display on the iPhone, but that has only happened to me a couple of times.

Ilyushin

Ah, that is too bad. But the primary reason I wanted to play it on my iPhone was for checking the income statement, aircraft market and the forums. I'll be alright. :)

Thank you.

The mobile site is rubbish. When im on my iPhone and iPad, I always play full version. Although, thats still awful on the iDevices, no charts, graphs etc etc.. Dont even bother scheduling a new route to a aircraft, its to much hassle and you cant get the correct information up anyway.

There really really really should be a iPhone App for AirwaySim... I think it would attract alot of new users!

iPhone/iPad is basically the only modern phone/mobile device that does not support flash. It's tedious to start reoptimizing the whole site just because Steve J does not like flash... :P    (and please, apple users, don't start about the HTML5 and it's awesomeness since that really isn't a practical solution for next 2 years at least yet due to poor browser compatibility)

However if / when the chart systems are updated at some point, I will take non-flash options into consideration.

The iphone is rubbish.  I had one, then I saw the light and got a Droid.
It can use the full functioning, with flash, AWS website.  Great for checking in and seeing how things are going when your out running errands and whatnot.

Why'd you go off and waste your money on an iPhone, I'll never know.

It's Ok, you can't really do a lot of magning from it. Mostly just checking up on things. When I'm at home I'll have 4 tabs open for this game and well you can't really do it with a iPhone. Also not having graphs puts a damper on things.

The iPhone and the iPad are the two apple products I don't really want.  But I couldn't live without my MacbookPro!

Not very well.... Mine always crashes when it reads the word 'Adobe'....

This is good because I will be able to join the new game world and grab a few airplanes all while sitting in chemistry class on Thursday.

There is a demand for non Flash version. Why many websites uses flash? There are other faster ways too...

Using the flash based chart/graph package is actually immensely fast and flexible to make at my end. It also looks visually better than other current alternatives, and very easy on the server as rendering is done at client's end. Actually iPhone compatibility is the only reason against it.

Surely using Google charts requires even less server load, with just as much flexibility, and is faster? Images take up far less system resources than flash objects, too.

As a developer (well, project manager) myself, I can say definitely that what Sami is saying is true. The iPhone is the only place where this stuff doesn't render properly. According to Sami's stats, it accounts for less than 5 percent of visitors to the site. Now correlation is not causation but it sure is a hint.

As someone who also works in IT consultancy, I beg to differ here. I myself would love to play the simulator on my (i)phone, but as I'm not able to, I don't. If the site worked on iPhone it could well see usage rise significantly.

I also strongly disagree with your point that the iPhone is the only place this doesn't render properly. The vast majority of mobile platforms would not be able to display AWS in its intended state. Aside from them not supporting proper inline flash on the page, some will not be able to handle the JavaScript requests back to the server. The iPhone safari browser is one of the most accurate browser rendering apps available on a mobile platform.

If we're talking of phones that are less than ~2-3 yrs old (like any reasonable smart phone that'd have large enough screen to browse the web), I'd say (on general level) they all do support basic Ajax / Javascript etc. Haven't found any problems in the ones I've tested. The site has a standard HTML code and seems to work very well actually.

Main issue with mobile browsers are the popups / lightbox windows which don't scale that well.

I've JB my ipad and installed flash (called "frash") in my ipad Safari, so now I can also view the chat in AWS from my ipad! Excellent!
