RPK's and ASK's

How do RPK's and ASK's help in determing if route is profitible. I understand it is revenue per kilomoter flown but I have had high ( $1 or more) RPK's yet still lose money, and yet have had RPK's in the red and made money.

It tells you the profitability of the route, not the aircraft. When you are analyzing your aircraft profitability, crews salary should be included.
