i also made the mistake of not seeing the 18 month rule too. i just ordered a ton of 737 that i dont need in my home base. o well time to push people off their routes. if anyone is in beginner 7 you should take to me and maybe i will tell you where the gold mine is. it is not in the US or eu

My brother did another mistakes. He was running his airline quiet well in Beginner World and planned to open the 2nd base. He knew the 18months rule. But he did not know the passenger flow of his desired base airport. He already flown all the possible routes from the biggest airport in that country (except some very long haul route) before he opening the 2nd hub. He got no where to spend the money and ordered a bunch of new aircraft for his 2nd base.

But, when he set up the 2nd base, which was the 2nd largest airport in the country, the passenger flow is not as much as he expected. Soon he fully occupied all the possible routes there, even routes of 30 pax demand... The problem is, he got 94 new aircraft coming in and he couldn't find a route for them. He tried replace his old fleet, tried put more seat than the demand until the airport slots gone... Still, he got 94 free planes and he need to wait another 10 game months for 3rd base.

He set it to bankrupt...

i studied the pax flow for this airport. there are wide open routes. most are wide open and at least 10 routes with demand for more the 300 pax.

Japan??
Then you don't have to worry about pax flow. You need to worry about which aircraft to fly.
Millions of Japanese flying within their country daily...

'other places' will be EU and USA. Other than this, pax flow is something to worry about... especially for a multihub game.

not necessarily. China and the Middle East as well as Australia. Taiwan.....Hong Kong/Singapore/Macau.....Malaysia......Philippines.....Indonesia......

Maybe I'm a bit exaggerative. I just want to say that US and EU is better than others.

Usually the space for expansion of our company in US and EU is unlimited because there are too many peoples waiting to fly and too many high capacity airports. The overall condition in Asia is different because expansion is limited, unless in China, Japan ad few other countries. A really good place in Asia is Japan where it has got many high capacity airports within the country and serving a high demand of domestic and international routes. The situation of Japan is comparable to EU and USA. China too. Even tough not as good as Japan, it has few high capacity airports serving medium to high pax flow internationally such as Beijing, Shanghai and ShenZhen. And China also have a strong domestic market.

For other big airports such as Hong Kong and Singapore, they are good to fly. But, in the aspect of long term expansion, they are not. You can't open a 2nd base.... Majority (all) Asian countries have only 1 (or maybe 2) big airports. Yes, we can get a 2nd base, but it does not have a good pax flow. Philippines is good for regional airline because its international flight is limited. Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand are quiet similar where they got a main airport (Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok and Jakarta) serving huge pax flow both domestic and international but the 2nd largest airport in their country is just too small compared to the main.

I always start my airline in Asia, and Kuala Lumpur is my favourite. The easiest game I tried in BW, I fully cover all the possible routes from Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu with only around 130 aircraft. And half of that 130 aircraft are props and regional jets smaller than B737. I was stuck there with too many new aircraft that I have no routes for them. And another problem of serving Asian airports is that we need a wide range of aircraft types to fully cover all different type of routes. Props for low-medium demand domestic, Fokker 70/100 or AVRO for high demand domestic, B737 for  medium-high demand routes within 2700nm, Fokker  70 for low demand within 2000nm, A300 for high demand within 4000nm (sometime with B757 for thin routes), B747 for long haul high demand and A330/340 for long haul thin routes. I need to have all these and even configure each aircraft to cover the routes, which is quiet impossible in a normal game.  In Modern Time and ATB, I grew to a fleet size of 40 then quit... At Kuala Lumpur, it is always tough competition with only 4 airlines based there, due to the route condition. I tried Haneda and Narita as well and I found it is easier to survive a competition there even tough with more airlines competing because of the thick routes.

Announced yesterday:

QuoteSingapore, Greece agree to expand bilateral Air Services Agreement

SINGAPORE : Singapore and Greece have agreed to expand the Air Services Agreement between both countries.

Under the expanded bilateral agreement, carriers from Singapore and Greece are allowed to operate unlimited cargo flights between and beyond the two countries.

There will also be unlimited "hubbing" rights for cargo operations for carriers of both countries.

For example, Singapore carriers will be allowed to base their aircraft in Greece and use Greece as a hub to operate to any other country.

The same privilege applies to Greek carriers.

The expanded agreement further allows carriers from both countries to operate unlimited passenger services between the two countries, and up to 14 weekly passenger services beyond them to any city worldwide.

At present, Singapore Airlines operates twice-weekly passenger services between Singapore and the capital city of Greece, Athens.

So can we expect to see it reflected in future AWS games?

I still believe ASEAN should be modeled in AWS as it is similar in structure to the EU.

I'm based in Kuala Lumpur in MT2 currently and I'm doing alright with a fleet of BAe's, Fokker 50's, 757's and 767's. I have a hub at Kuching but as stated, only props can fly from bases in Malaysia as the route demand is too small (typically 4-50pax a day).

Totally agree!! By the way, ATR and Fokker 70/100 are also good for Malaysian routes. :D

Just want to say something I talk about since TMT1: the limitation of top 20 is only sutiable for EU/ US market. In Asia this is only a protection to big boys ;) Even in China or Japan, the demand is focus to a few big airports. For China they are ZBAA and ZSSS+ZSPD. For Japan that's a bit better, having 4:RJTT, RJAA, RJOO and RJBB, although RJFF, ROAH, RJCC, RJFK and RJSS can also enjoy some adventage on routes between each other. ZBAA and RJTT are in the top 20, that mean those who based in the capital only need to face competition from their HQ, when others need to take care of players from other bases, especially those are earning tons of money form thier protected base. Maybe this is based on some kind of reallism setting: state owned/ supported airline can get adventage over the market ;)

(I think sami will want to ban my account soon :P)

I've ordered Saab 2000's to replace my Fokkers and open more routes with as they are very fast (only 0.05 Mach slower than my BAe's!) with 58 seats (compared to BAe's 84 and Fokkers are the same number of seats as the Saab). I ordered more than I need so that I can put up some for lease along with my fokkers

Fly Saab to Singapore and all domestic routes within Peninsular Malaysia! You'll be very happy to see the high yield of all those flights. ;D For flight to Singapore, you can put 2000/2000 seat there. Don't care about your competitor if they fly anything bigger than B737. I tried fill up this route 100% using ATR42 flying 5 times daily. When Saab2000 was certified, I replace all those ATR with it and still i got almost full passenger on every flight. I conquer the market share and the competitor was losing money on that route.

raptorva

that's my intention which I'll be trying if I can get any slots...none available at Singapore it seems
