Single Aviation Market between Australia and New Zealand

With the release of version 2 of AWS you can now base your airline if you want to do so (which I think is great).  If you are in the EU you are able to base within any other European Union member due to the EU being a single aviation market.

But I think another single aviation market has been left out, and that is the one between Australia and New Zealand.  I'm not 100% sure that it is a single aviation market, but I have found two documents that say that their is a SAM between the two countries.  I have attached both the documents to the end of this post.  One of the documents quotes that the SAM was first officially signed in 1996, and the other states that Australia relaxed laws in 2006 allowing for New Zealand based airlines to fly domestic routes within Australia.

I think a real life example of this is Pacific Blue Airlines, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacific_Blue_Airlines  which is hubed in both Christchurch, New Zealand and Brisbane, Australia.  And Pacific Blue is part of Virgin Blue which is an airline based in Australia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virgin_Blue.

Maybe Sami you might want to have a look at the documents below, I could be wrong.

Wilkesy and I are competing for Auckland. Actually, he is killing me because my initial strategy (flying on 767) had no success. In any case, I was also under the impression that such a deal existed between New Zealand and Australia. Qantas definitely runs domestic routes in New Zealand, which to me suggests that such a deal must exist (unless I'm misinterpreting it). Anyway, please add it to the game, otherwise Wilkesy and I will be duking it out in Auckland and then fighting over other smaller NZ hubs like Dunedin, Wellington, Christchurch, and even Queenstown for eternity. Let me set up a base in Australia so I can escape Wilkesy's domination!

Also, Wilkesy... please stop making money. As your competitor, it makes my job far more difficult!

ok.  have to investigate this.

Any definitive date when the rule were applied?

Aus and NZ carriers have the rights to fly domestic in each country.  They also have the right to fly international from each country.

Currently Jetstar (Aus airline) fly domestic in NZ.

Qantas (Aus Airline) fly AKL-LAX

Air NZ also used to fly SYD-LAX but lo longer do so.

Air NZ also used to own 100% Ansett a domestic airline.

I believe these changes were introduced around 1990 whn derugulation occurred.

This document shows it was 1st November 1996

This has existed for quite some time as I know that Ansett (my favorite airline before it went belly up) used to operate NZ domestic services under the 'Ansett New Zealand' titles flying BAe-146 series 300 aircraft.

Air New Zealand does not currently fly any domestic services within Australia (or at least from Melbourne where I live) but I do know that Qantas and Pacific Blue do fly domestic routes within NZ, Pacific Blue being the NZ-based airline who's fleet gets substituted by Virgin Blue aircraft when demand is needed or not and when aircraft are in maintenance.

In the second document it was signed 1 Nov 1996, and started 30 June 1997

bumpety bump bump...

I also have a question. Is there any chance that this single aviation market gets implemented in ATB? I doubt anybody would mind and I'm sure that a lot of people would be excited about it. That said, there might be technical issues in doing it which I'm pleasantly oblivious to. It would just be nice to know if it were a possibility because, as an airline based in New Zealand, it very much affects my strategy.

New stuff always gets added into the next game (unless it's a crucial bugfix).

I would prefer to add this to v.1.21 or something like that. I would implement the starting dates for all these at the same time, and add other open aviation markets too (Norway into EU openskies, central America ..etc).

They CAN be added to live games but I'd suspect it's not fair for all players?

Why not add the Aus/NZ one around the same time it started in real life in the game?
