Is the estimated daily passenger demand route specific and is there a cap on the number of passengers for each airport.

And note they are not exact as your analyst's department becomes better and these numbers change over time (generally rising) as more people like to fly. So you may also boost your demand by creating an offer.

So the only time an airline will be in direct competition with another will be if they fly the same route as the amount of airlines an airport has only effects the slots, which I guess also effects competition but in a different way.
