I'm a sophmore in high school (grade 10) and I thought I should start thinking about my future career. I definatley want a job related to aviation but I don't know what to be. I also want a high paying job. Can anyone suggest things to me?

I have considered becoming an ATC but I don't want my hair to fall out and turn gray early lol.

Things that I have ruled out:

Pilot
Flight Attendant
Airline CEO  :P
Ground Crew

I really enjoy the job as a ticketing agent at the airport. We have a lot of responsibilities and every day is something different :) Also it is much more demanding and you have much more responsibilities here than anywhere else.

I am still working for a travel agency but I would like to soon change to an airline company. But not sure how to do that frankly :( I have knowledge of languages, I am very skilled with Amadeus system and even with Gallileo, Helios systems etc., but there is very few openings at all here in PRague now....

Anyone here related with any big airline who could give me a hint?

I am an ATC, all that Crap about stress is overated.  I am guessing that you are in the USA, I am not sure what your processes are there, but at the very least go for the interviews and selection process.  It is very rewarding and is certainly at the heart of aviation.

Oh, your hair does not turn gray and fall out, you get to pull it out way before it goes gray ....    ;)

Very Best Regards

Richard

What does this mean?

By the way, I'm sure the view from the tower is amazing!  ;D

Most ATC organizations will have a selection process whereby they will evaluate all applicants who apply for jobs as ATC's.  The evaluation will normally include some form of aptitude testing, medical test, interview and some practical exercises to evaluate your basic skills.  After successful completion of the above, they will employ you and train you.

What I am saying is that until they offer you a job, there is normally no commitment required from you and the process itself can be challenging and interesting, something you should do if you think you may have any interest whatsoever in doing ATC as a career.

Unfortunately there isnt much future for someone in the airline industry in the USA. There are lots of aviation related positions that arent directly employed by an airline, there might be opportunity there. Airline jobs are just more visible. It is going to be harder to become a pilot in the USA has minimum hours are going to be increased.

You can get airline experience in the USA and work elsewhere like as a pilot of Emirates or Ethiad.

Axis Air

Go Air Force!!!!!!!While you are in there you can decide what your passion is and then get to go to college prepaid!!! ;)

Yeah but I want to come home everyday. Plus, I think airplanes are so unattractive when it's full of people so I don't want to look at that everyday lol. Yeah, I'm weird.  ;)

Lol. I am also in tenth grade. I live in Seattle the home of one of the only airlines making money Alaska. I am in fact going to hear the president of Alaska speak tomorrow with my dad. I am hoping to possibly get a job with Alaska, Horizen, possibly Boeing or maybe one of the smaller regional airlines based out of Boeing field. Maybe even Kenmore air which flys seaplanes. I am also gunning for the CEO position. :)

Well... I just passed throug 10th grade, and now I am working on my "A-level" (now in grade 11 of 13)...

I am also into the Idea of doing s.th. in direction of airline business, but more from the CEO way, not directly of an airline, but the way of Logistics (as the name of my airline "Lauterjung Logistics Ltd.")

Due to living near the Netherlands, which counts to the "mothers of logistics" I want to study Logistics in the Netherlands (i.e.Venlo) also because I know that some universities also offer these subjects in german!
So I will more likely do freight/cargo, than PAX....

I worked at EHAM Airport Security. So yes.. I do know every corner of the terminal and most platforms after three years. I had to check PAX but also platform security for British Airways. Great to walk under a A319 and smell' it's parfume  ;) But don't do it to often as you will get stoned by the fumes after a while ;D. I was at the platform when a collegue was hit by lightning (He survived and went back to work two months later), and when snow was 20 inches high, or sun was burning with platform temperatures reaching 40 degrees celcius. But aviation is not my hobby, trains are... and I work as signaller at the Amsterdam rail control centre... signalling trains through EHAM station.... ;D

What I wanted to ask all the ones working for airlines/airports:

Why do you actually play this game?! I mean, you do this each day 8hrs (+-) and then in your free time, you play this game! Isn't that ennerving?!! I mean, I hate doing things for my job (student) in the afternoon! (instead I am playing AWS  ;D ;D)

I'm flight instructor in USA. And I really don't suggest you to go for  a pilot job.

Have you considered being an airline dispatcher?  It pays well (can get close to six digits once you're experienced).  And honestly I think it's probably the best job at an airline that's not called a "pilot".  You have operational control over a flight along with the captain and make decisions regarding the flight plan, routing, and giving the go ahead on whether or not a flight operates.  You can get your FAA dispatcher's license in a about year at several post-secondary schools.

I thought About going into Aviation Management , but decided to be an urban planner (with a focus on international planning) instead.

I feel like I would be happier working planning citie and transport systems (and that includes airports ;D).

I wan to go to school in a different country once I graduate from community college, since it would be better for my career and mysel finacially ( went to University of Illinois, it's 30k a year!!! Just for tuition! And that's only for an instate student!)

I found a nice college in Costa Rica that I like (7k a year, cheap to live there , a 1 hr flight from Nicaragua- so I can go there every summer. Seems perfect for me).

But, everything is still in the air. I do know that I'm going to be an urban planner.

I agree. I talked to a guy flying ERJs for American Eagle at an Airshow in Rockford, IL ( there was also a AA 737-800 along with other things there) and he said he does it not for the money, but because he likes it alot.
