My theory was that if I hired people afterwards that I could average everyone's morale up and save a bunch of dough in the process. It gave me about a 1 percent boost in morale.

This playtime may have doomed this airline, but at least I know what happens if you lower the salary ALL the way to the left. 

Oh, as a special bonus, if your Route strategies people are unhappy, that little accuracy percentage you see in the lower left when checking flight number estimates goes from 90-95 percent to 40-45 percent. Trust me, you need that to not happen -- you have no idea if a run will be profitable or not without that information.
