A question about the fleet commonality

Hi, Sami...

I am wondering about a thing with the fleet commonality:

I had a B767-200 with a commonality of 650 000$
the I leased a used ATR 42, and the price for the 767-200 had risen to 1.05mio$...

so I am now confused how an aircraft from a different firm and with different engines (CF80|PW120)
can affect the other airplanes costs????

so my main question is, how the fleet commonality works, because it everytime rises as I recive ordered aircraft.....

thank you for explaining it to me

It rises over time cause of age. Not because of different planes. ATR 42 and 767 are not similar in any way.....

It's been explained on the forum before. I don't understand the explanation, but that's a different matter.

Wait so they do affect each other?  :o

That is just awkward....

Yes, when you add any new plane type, the costs to maintain all the others goes up.  A lot.  Seems like you can figure a roughly 50% increase in costs of every other type for each type you add.

As Kontio stated, it's been "explained" before, but it doesn't make the slightest bit of sense to me either.

Regardless, I don't complain as the costs in the game still aren't in-line with reality, so the last thing I want to happen is for this to be fixed, costs to decrease, and margins to increase even more.

you can maybe think of it as logistic costs. while the basic costs for each fleet type stay the same when a new fleet type is introduced, the logistic costs to handle a single fleet type grow with each new one.
while i don't know if the numbers have anything to do with the real world, the mechanism is perfectly fine from a gameplay standpoint.
with linear growth (just adding e.g. 500k per fleet group) nobody would ever care for fleet commonality.

i think it adds as a deterent to airlines buying up every plane they can get hold of on the used ac market.

it forces players into making a realistic strategic business model.

running 1 fleet type is only costing me around 510k per month with 3 707s which i think is very good and manageable amount.

well it can't be completly real, but it is as real as Sami can make it to keep the game playable.  And i'm not sure i said anything that warrented being sworn at??

That wasn't for you.. I was just shocked about system...

ok..

i'm no expert in fleet running costs but it does pay any small airline to keep their fleet types to a minimum.

once you become a big airline it does'nt matter as much but if not kept in check, maintainance costs can spiral out of control.

as a very small airline it is helping me a lot keeping my fleet type to 1.

i think maybe that is the reason why in real life the more successful large airlines run as few fleet types as possible.
