Australian Airlines (AUS, By Niko Pursiainen) is using the reversed Qantas 1984-2007 logo as their airline logo, according the information:

QuoteRemember that you are not allowed to use real world airline logos in the game.

So i report it to here.  :)

Cheers,

Nobody react?
Is that legal?  :-\

FatMikel

Maybe it just means current logos? I dunno.  :-\

Apparantly we're not allowed to use the same names either, but there was a news report from QANTAS yesterday.

I think the old livery and old logos are protected by copyright
so that's not a good idea to use those real logos

Maybe he can wait for 50/70 years after the designer died(just a joke)
see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyright_expiration_in_Australia
Or maybe he can pay fines to Qantas if Airwaysim's server inside EU. : :)

Actually the company (if there is one) that owned the copyright would have to prove damages. There are no damages incurred from playing a game with an old logo of a defunct airline. No airline or business in their right mind would even think about bringing a lawsuit, even current airlines most likely would not. The worst you would possibly get from a current airline is a warning letter, but even that is exceptionally unlikely.

Then we should allow our player use the real airline logo now.  :)

Well it's up to the developers what they want to allow, but the precedent has already been set by the flight simulation community. Thousands of logos and company names are used all the time on aircraft simulated in Flight Simulator. Even virtual airlines exist that share the same name as the airlines they are attempting to simulate. This has never been a cause for legal action.

But I can see Airwaysim developers hide all airline logo in aircraft page like this:
https://www.airwaysim.com/game/img/aircraft/B744_Boeing747400ER.jpg
(obviously it's ANA 744)

I think this action also related to copyright, as it's really belongs to the company and the designer who created it.

Alien

As this is a Beta for the game, ther is hardly any chance, a real world airline might spot the logo. I really doubt, that an airline will scann the internet on a regular basis for the appearance of its name. I know some brandnames do this, like chanel, gucci and even some singers, like Parvarotti. To my opinion, its more dagerous, calling Your Airline "Parvarotti Air" than Quantas.

But You never know, what some weired freak on a computerterminal in an airline will find. And what the atorney of their legal department will make out of it.
