Next round of History and the Future opens next Saturday

The next epic-length AirwaySim's airline simulation scenario, History and the Future, opens on Saturday 28th February.

This is one of our three concurrent epic-length airline sim scenarios, starting in the 1950s and running all the way into year 2035. An ultimate challenge for virtual airline managers!

This game world follows the standard settings for long AirwaySim games:

  • Time span: 1950 - 2035, at 30 minutes per game day.
  • Normal difficulty level / Epic length scenario.
  • All airports globally and all aircraft models included.
  • The overall play duration of this game is about 1.5 years.
  • Special rule: The "out of HQ" aircraft limit is disabled already from the beginning of the simulation (geopolitical limitations are still in force).
  • Special rule: Startup selection of aircraft is limited. There are no "long-range" aircraft available in the used aircraft market when the game starts.

This scenario will open at approximately 13 UTC (that's 8am @ NYC, and 10pm @ Tokyo) on Saturday 28th February.

Pre-join the game already today, and be notified when it launches!

New aircraft image library

The completely rebuild AirwaySim aircraft image library is now in use!

This is the largest single visual upgrade we have made to the aircraft data, and the new images cover all of the ~700 aircraft variants in the database. The new images fully replace the old low-resolution pictures with higher quality images that look significantly sharper in the UI. The goal has been consistency, technical and historical accuracy, and a better overall presentation across the whole aircraft range, from early classics to modern aircraft.

Each existing image in the library was enhanced to meet these standards, but additionally over 200 images have been re-sourced for better quality and better technical accuracy. All aircraft images have now also era-appropriate visual styles and liveries to give you an evolving aviation history timeline.

A wide list of other smaller updates have also been made, including finalizing the Dynamic aircraft manufacturer names feature and thus fully completing the Fleet Commonality v.2.0 update. See Changelog for details.

New Beginner's World #2

A new Beginner's World #2 scenario is now open!

Join here: https://www.airwaysim.com/game/#game511

AirwaySim has always two concurrent Beginner's World scenarios running (BW#1 and BW#2). They both use the same settings and same time frame.

Our beginner game series is aimed for all newbies and other players wishing to test different playing styles in an easier environment. Duration of one scenario is always approximately 60 real days. The scenario runs for ~10 game years with a speed of 25 minutes per day, and all of AirwaySim's main features are included in these scenarios.

When a BW scenario ends, a new one will start within a few days. The two scenarios are running in parallel so that there is always one BW scenario start every month.

Preview: Aircraft Images v.2.0

Work is currently in progress to introduce a completely rebuilt aircraft image library to the game.

The entire aircraft image catalogue, covering ~700 aircraft variants, is being rebuilt from scratch with consistent image quality, historical accuracy, and era-accurate visual styling.

All black-and-white, blurry, and otherwise poor quality legacy images from the very origins AirwaySim will be replaced. At the same time over 200 new high-quality source images are being added to eliminate duplicates and outdated material.

In the first release cargo aircraft will have an all-white appearance, but all passenger and combi variants will feature a wide variety of historically appropriate liveries, providing a visually evolving aviation history timeline. Image resolution will also increase, providing a clearer and more detailed visual representation of each aircraft, maintaining strict historical and technical accuracy.

In this project we are using automated tools to streamline the project and reduce the workload. Each aircraft source image is rebuilt to remove real-world liveries and markings, replacing them with clean, generic, era-appropriate airline color schemes. For long term support and management, a new set of backend tools have been introduced to manage the image library, allowing controlled image regeneration from source material and flexible updates to aircraft liveries when needed.

We hope to implement this new major improvement into all running games during February.

Minor adjustments to Credits bundles

We have made small adjustments to the AirwaySim Credits packages to better reflect current usage patterns.

The 40 Credits bundle has been discontinued, and minor pricing adjustments have been applied to the remaining Credits packages to provide clearer and more linear discounts between the bundles. The standard 10 Credits package price remains unchanged.
