Payload vs. range

Something I have been working on to enhance the realism of the game even more, payload vs. range models for the planes.

Currently the range of each aircraft is static, it's just a figure determined to represent a "normal" range for that plane with full passenger load. Naturally you can already make a difference buy purchasing different weight variants or engines that affect to the range. But this is not completly realistic as modeling of extra belly cargo is impossible this way and also one can fly too long routes with planes that are really not capable for that.

So to take this a step further a modeling of payload vs. range graphs will be done. Meaning that one can now tell exactly how far he is able to fly with his airplane when he has certain amount of payload (passengers and/or cargo) onboard. See the attachments for examples.

Also if you spot these payload vs. range graphs around please let me know. I already have the data for all of Boeing's and Airbus models so that is not needed - presumably other manufacturers also do have that but I haven't seeked actively for that yet.

Do you have the Dougls and McDonald Douglas Data?

Yep, they come with Boeing these days ...

What about the CRJ, ERJ, and ATR's? :)

Mcdonald Douglas??

Great work sami, This is going to come in handy.. sweeet

Nice idea, can't wait to apply them in all my planes...

By the way... Im going to Argentina for holidays so im going to be there around 1 1/2 months. that means that im only going to be online late in the night... Pity that I can't take my own airline to fly there XD (PTY-EZE).

And here's how it looks in the game ..

So in the next game reset, this will be available? ???

Yes, just requires a whole heep of data to be inserted to database.... And some more coding too before it's done.

(and game reset is needed because this update changes the data structure a bit for the aircraft models)

Seattle

aha..... Do you need any help finding the data? :)

so can we have payload restriction like the real airlines?
to fly the route beyond the aircraft range

Powi

What are airline options to vary payload weight for a give route? Limit amount of passengers? Carry extra cargo? Limit the baggage allowance (low-cost airline concept)? Does the payload also affect fuel usage (low-cost airline concept)?

Despite the many questions I think this is a great feature for the game!

Payload vs. range graps, (sometimes can be found in Airport Planning Manual), are welcome. I already got Saab, Airbus (all but the old A300), ATR, Saab, Boeing, McDonnellDouglas, Embraer (all but Emb-110) and Avro.

Yes. The "range" what you will see listed in the game after this is updated is the range with the normal pax load. It's only a reference and the true range is affected by the number of payload you wish to carry. You can increase the range up to the max by limiting payload, 1400 nm for Saab 340B for example (see image). But naturally you can only reach 1400 nm with no payload at all, so that's not very profitable. ;)   But let's say a 1000 nm sector with Saab is possible with payload of approx 2300 kg that equals about 24 pax & bags. Another thing is then that what the passengers like to fly such a long route with such a small plane ...

One can limit the payload to get more range. In the future (dunno when) the extra payload can be used to transport belly cargo (this was my point why I started to make this feature!). The baggage allowance is a bit too hard to make I think, for now system assumes everyone has a bag... For performance calculations the aircraft weight is static but that could be modeled easily so that heavier aircraft burns more fuel.

I would suggest to implement this as soon as possible. The fuelcosts increase with the load factor. Extra light freight (like air mail) can increase the profit, based on the flight distance.
