GrewAir Brings the Future to Norway: Daily Supersonic Concorde Service to Launch from Bergen
BERGEN, NORWAY – 28th December 1980 – GrewAir, Norway's favorite airline, is proud to announce a historic milestone in Scandinavian aviation. Beginning in early 1981, GrewAir will inaugurate a special, limited-engagement supersonic service connecting Bergen Flesland Airport (BGO) to Keflavík International Airport (KEF) in Iceland.
The Return of a Legend
As the production of the Aerospatiale/BAC Concorde officially draws to a close, GrewAir has secured the legendary first production Concorde to facilitate this route. This aircraft, a marvel of 20th-century engineering, represents the pinnacle of luxury and speed. By bringing this iconic bird to Norwegian soil, GrewAir ensures that the spirit of supersonic travel lives on even as the assembly lines in Toulouse and Filton fall silent.
Speed Above the North Sea
The Bergen to Keflavík route will offer passengers an experience unlike any other in the Nordics. While traditional jetliners take over two hours to cross the Norwegian Sea, GrewAir's Concorde service will slash travel times, reaching speeds of Mach 2.0—twice the speed of sound—at an altitude of 60,000 feet.
A Gift to the People of Norway
GrewAir leadership acknowledges that this temporary route is a bold departure from standard commercial operations.
"We are under no illusions regarding the profitability of this venture," said a GrewAir spokesperson. "The high operational costs of supersonic flight are well-documented. However, GrewAir has always been more than just a business; we are Norway's airline. We wanted to give our loyal passengers the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to fly on the world's most sophisticated aircraft before it becomes a piece of history."
Service Highlights:
Daily Frequency: Unlike restricted international schedules, GrewAir will operate this service every single day, ensuring maximum opportunity for the public to participate.
Supersonic Speed: Fly at over 2,100 km/h, crossing the North Atlantic in a fraction of the usual time.
The Mach 2 Experience: Passengers will witness the curvature of the Earth against the blackness of space from the edge of the atmosphere.
Exclusive Catering: A specially curated menu featuring the finest Norwegian and Icelandic delicacies, paired with vintage champagnes.
Historic Aircraft: Fly on the very first production model of the Concorde, meticulously maintained for this special GrewAir service.
Booking Information
Tickets for this limited-run service will go on sale starting January 5, 1981. Due to the restricted number of seats and the temporary nature of the route, GrewAir anticipates record-breaking demand.
