Waving from Tāmaki Makaurau or the land of Auck.......

As the winter sun rises across the southern hemisphere, a new airline takes to the skies, with the sole aim of bringing a smile to the faces of the people we help experience the beauty and majesty of flight.

Old Dutch is here, to add a little sparkle as we transport our passengers across the ditch and beyond with a fleet of comfortable pre-loved aircraft.  Whilst our massive neighbour may label our little fleet of Boeing 377 historic, we'd like to assure the travelling public that we take safety as a paramount objective and most of our 'old' aircraft are actually under 10 years of age, but worry not,  these lovely future classics will only fly with us for a relatively short time – bigger, faster and even more comfortable airframes will wear our name as with embark during this age of flight, through the jet age and off into the wild future, when who knows, aircraft might be made of fancy plastics and composites materials that even the most geeky amount us can only dream about in the present times.

We'd like to thank ReedAir's management and staff for the warm welcome as we start our new adventure in the skies over our beloved Aotearoa. Whilst Old Dutch is a new name, our team, as ReedMe pointed out in a recent press release, are not new; they've been around the harbour a few times and wallowed in a bath of hokey pokey once or twice! We're not ashamed to admit it either!  We're looking forward to spirited, friendly and fair competition between our two carriers and send our warmest wishes and good-hearted waves across the tarmac, although you'll have to keep an eye out behind, as most of your planes go faster than ours!

There is always space for us all in that wild blue yonder they call sky.  There are more people today wishing to climb aboard aircraft and zoom faster and higher than birds than there were yesterday. And, tomorrow, yet more still will wish to take to the air, and the day after that, their number will increase yet more so. Only because, as some old bloke called Leo once said, "Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return."

So thank you ReedMe, for your welcome and hello to all those budding travellers out there!  We don't promise you we'd be the best and we'll never tell you we're the cheapest, and you can rest assured we'll never say that our planes will be the newest, or the fastest or the prettiest or whatever the phrase of the day may be. We'll just get in those mechanical birds and keep the blue side up, for above us, only sky, imagine all the people, flying for today!  – Gosh that's got a ring to it, you never know, someone might turn that into a song one day.
