MyAsia Soars Ahead with Modern Fleet, Connecting Malaysia and Asia

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – November 3, 2007 – MyAsia, a leading Southeast Asian airline, today proudly announced the continued expansion and modernization of its fleet, enhancing connectivity across Malaysia and the wider Asian region. The airline also reflected on its remarkable journey, overcoming past challenges to emerge as a robust and forward-looking carrier.

MyAsia's roots trace back to 1990 with the founding of MyJet, the former flag carrier of Malaysia. MyJet faced severe operational hurdles over several years, primarily due to an ill-suited fleet selection coinciding with the unexpected closure of the old Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) and the opening of a new facility. This transition led to a drastic and unannounced shift in passenger demand, compounded by aggressive competition, ultimately leading to MyJet's bankruptcy.

In 2007, MyJet2 emerged from these challenges, laying the groundwork for what is now MyAsia. The airline has since successfully navigated a dynamic aviation landscape, demonstrating a strong commitment to adapting and evolving.

Today, MyAsia operates a diverse and efficient fleet tailored to its extensive network. This includes modern Embraer 170 and Embraer 190 jets, known for their passenger comfort, fuel efficiency, and ability to serve a variety of routes. Complementing these jets is a super-efficient fleet of ATR 42 and ATR 72 turboprop aircraft, which are ideal for regional connections and accessing airports with shorter runways, particularly important for linking diverse communities across Malaysia and Asia. These turboprops are renowned for their low fuel consumption and reduced environmental footprint, making them a sustainable choice for regional operations.

"Our journey has been one of significant transformation and unwavering determination," said Mr. My, spokesperson for MyAsia. "While our origins were marked by immense difficulty, they also forged the resilient spirit that defines MyAsia today. We've learned invaluable lessons from our past, which have directly contributed to our current operational strength and our focus on meeting the evolving needs of our passengers. The strategic selection of our Embraer and ATR aircraft underscores our commitment to efficiency, reliability, and providing seamless travel experiences throughout the region."

MyAsia continues to invest in modernizing its fleet and enhancing its passenger experience, building on a foundation of hard-won experience and a clear vision for the future of air travel in Southeast Asia.
